well, you can say Hinch might have gotten Montero out of there with the lead, but the way Brieske and Miller pitched they should have given up runs there. Padres BP too much for the Tigers. The heavy LH lineup doesn't work against a lefty BP.

Montero looks like he has some promise but of course he really should be at AAA learning to pitch inside and sequence

I went to bed when it was tied. Awoke thinking a loss likely and I was right. and it’s pretty disappointing, especially considering how the game began.

What’s going on now is all about next year. The fact that we’ve had so much to celebrate as of late is something we should be grateful for.

I know, it seems like being grateful for walking uphill both to and from school, but this recent run has been wonderful. I haven’t enjoyed this team so much in a long time.

We can’t just wait and wait and wait for these guys to be magically “ready.” They already know how to swim in a pool so throwing them into the ocean is the next step. There’s a high mortality rate for animals in a state of nature - I watch a lot of nature documentaries - and it’s no different for these baseball creatures of ours. 

This is where we all need to link hands and sing “Tomorrow” from Annie.

I think the next steps might be (1) sign two pitchers to longish-term contracts, like, three years, a starter and a reliever who fit the system but are undervalued in the marketplace—I have no names as of yet; (2) find a hitter who also fits the system and will sign a two-year deal to be a placeholder or a flip piece as we wait for lower-minors prospects to gel; (3) prepare Jackson Jobe to make his major league debut at some point next season.

I doubt they sign a reliever to a long-term deal.  I agree on the other two.

Throwing the first pitch anywhere near the strike zone is a terrible, awful idea. The one from Montero was inexcusable.
