So you're saying there's a chance. They just have to go 12-3 or better.
Motor City Sonics
Yep, Mojo. Mojo is right. Mojo is good. Win the rest of the series and if it's not enough, it's just not enough. If they can just keep me interested until the last week - I'm actually satisfied - as this was supposed to be an evaluation year. But the expectation changes next year. Dingler and Jung will hopefully be more consistent. Colt Keith had a rough two months - those two are doing their two-month trial run now. My Top 5 priorities in the offseason 1. Sign Skubal. Just pay him 2. Do not let Chris Fetter get away - there will probably be 4-6 managerial openings and he's probably going to be on everyone's list. Make him the highest-paid pitching coach in the league. Keep him 3. Sign a GOOD starting pitcher in the offseason. Be bold here. I think they'll have a hard time getting one, but aim a little higher than recent years. 2026 - 2030 is your window. See if Flaherty wants to come back. 4. Find a new starting SS. Just end it with Javy. I think Adames is going to want something at least 6 years and at least 30 million per year. Don't do that. 2 years until (hopefully) Kevin McGonigle is ready. 5. Burn those city connect threads

Tenacious D
Just enjoy the ride, boys. It might not end up with the postseason, but a lot of goodness that we can take away from this season. A bunch of rookies and young guys are playing winning ball.

This is one they shouldn't have lost. Yes, its tough to sweep any MLB team, even the Rockies or White Sox. But there's not much margin for error right now. Taking series gets the Tigers to 85-77. That would mean Minnesota would need to go 6-10 or Kansas City would need to go 4-11 in order to open up a wild card spot for the Tigers. Its not an impossible proposition, but doubtful nonetheless. Hey, its September and there's still a chance. Who saw this at the trade deadline?

HeyAbbott
With respect to this year, I am just enjoying what is being pulled off. Next year, I would advise extreme caution in tweaking the roster. I am with those who think we need one more bat and one more solid deliver on the staff.

Burn those city connect threads Dingler stinks and ain't it. If they're counting on him for any significant number of ABs next year, they're in trouble. Agree wholeheartedly with #1 and #2. Re: #3, I think they need at least a #2 starter. I think they need a #3, as well, but I don't think they'll spend that much on SP and I don't think they'll give up on Mize (but I'm not a fan). I just don't trust a rotation of Skubal-FA #2-Olsen-Mize-Montero/Madden/Maeda. I don't see them spending money on a SS. I don't think they'll cut Javy loose, but even if they do Sweeney has flashed enough to warrant a longer look. The bigger issues are the monster holes at 1B and C. Tork - like Mize - is what he is and is not going to all of a sudden figure it out. If Liranzo and Briceno can keep progressing, this team should be a problem in 2026. monkeytargets39
If that Montero breaking ball he had the other night is consistent, then that’d be huge for our offseason plan. I’d feel a lot better having him in there as the #5 guy to start the year. Side note- with how effective Hanifee/Guenther/Madden/Huerter have been for us, I think it’s fair to put Manning back in the equation too. Toledo stats may just not be highly indicative of mlb success. Jobe and SGL probably starting in the Toledo rotation will be nice depth too. One FA starter to be a #2/#3 guy may be all we need to target for the pitching staff—although a lights out closer would be ideal also if possible. Bite the bullet and dump Maeda. I think Manning needs to be sent to the bullpen. As a last chance to figure something out. Like consistency, for one. Maybe his pitches will play up there and he can go all out for 1 inning at a time. I think we have the depth next year to let him try this as something different (because what he's doing this and the past several years is not working...). 3 hours ago, monkeytargets39 said: .... Bite the bullet and dump Maeda. Won't happen until at least Opening Day. Spring training injuries and all. He's actually been a damn fine pitcher this year... In his GOOD appearances that is. He's been almost dominant, in his "good" appearances. His ATROCIOUS appearances on the other hand (the ratio was 50/50 a while ago, I don't know if he's still on that ratio...) have been, well, I don't even know if "atrocious" is the right word. Is there something worse than "atrocious"?
