I like the idea of adding two right-handed bats to the lineup. Meadows, Greene, Guerrero, Carpenter, Keith, Bichette, 3b Vierling, DH Perez/Malloy, Dingler/Rogers. Farm still has Jobe, Rainer, Liranzo, Lee, Briceno, Hall, among others. So the farm would still be in good shape, and the lineup in Detroit just got a lot better. I'm not as sold as some of you that the players the Tigers give up are going to have a big impact as major leaguers, assuming they all make the bigs. Stop it Quote
HeyAbbott Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 (edited) 1st rule when offering up a trade on this blog is-- put the bong down. This run is starting to suggest that the Tigers may be very close to having a prolonged run. A reasonable improvement at first and one more bullpen arm would be my take on improvements for this off-season. Clark and McGonigle are not tradeable as they are keys to the future. period. CaliforniaDreaming Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Wait...Bichette is now out with a broken finger. Now is an even better time to deal! 😜 Quote

Fine. Can’t believe we are trading away our entire 2023 left side of the infield for a guy with a broken finger though. 1 Quote

sergioalpert66 Posted September 19, 2024 Author Posted September 19, 2024 (edited) I wouldn't hesitate to make the trade, of course the trade assumes Guerrero and Bichette are signed for the long-term. Some of you really overestimate the production the Tigers would receive from the players they'd be giving up. Assuming Meadows hits, Max Clark is never gonna play center in Detroit. And Max Clark is never gonna outhit Kerry Carpenter, assuming the Tigers think of moving Clark to right. McGonigle is never gonna outhit Colt Keith. Jung may eventually become a productive enough hitter, and he may not. We know Jung will never be good enough defensively anywhere in the field. Jaden Hamm was bad in college, was great in the first half of the season in A ball, not as great in the 2nd half. In Guerrero and Bichette, the Tigers might be acquiring two future hall of famers in their prime. What hall of famers is Toronto getting? None. Edited September 19, 2024 by sergioalpert66 Quote
sergioalpert66 Posted September 19, 2024 Author Posted September 19, 2024 (edited) The Tigers need legit right-handed bats. A lineup with Guerrero and Bichette would greatly improve our weak offense. Edited September 19, 2024 by sergioalpert66 Quote
TigerNation Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 You don't give up that much value for players with one year of control, it's really that simple. Vlad is absolutely someone Id love the Tigers to acquire, he's a perfect fit for exactly what the current young core needs. But I'm not giving up any top 50 prospect for one year of control. Quote
HeyAbbott Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 In addition to everything else, Kerry Carpenter has had back problems. For outfielder, that can be the beginning of the end. Riley Greene has had a significant injury history already. I would be very reluctant to trade Clark for these reasons alone. Quote
buddha Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 i wouldnt trade max clark straight up for either of those guys or both of them. i would trade spencer torkelson. but not a lot else. but if i am trading tork, i'm probably trading him for someone else. as has been mentioned, all those tigers' guys have years of control, the blue jays' players do not. that removes a lot of value from them and removes a lot of leverage from the blue jays. if you wanted those two, it wouldnt cost you that many players. I'm sure we may have an A or AA middle infielder we may be willing to part with for him. But he's only a 1 year rental. Quote
Tigermojo Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 How many top prospects were traded at the deadline? Teams are hoarding their young players for good reason. Quote

If we're parting with Clark and McGonigle it would be to acquire a player like Skubal where we're gonna have them for 3 playoff runs. Hopefully we just sign him in free agency. A 2-3-4 of Greene-Vlad Jr-Carpenter would be a lot of fun. Quote

The key is the long term deal which, if I remember correctly is nonexistent. Additionally, I wouldn’t want a long term deal with Guerrero. I don’t think he’ll age well. chasfh Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 (edited) I could be talked into sending Torkelson and Mize and Manning, plus Avila all-stars such as Kreidler and Dingler and Faedo and Englert and Lange, to the Jays for Guerrero and Bichette. Edited September 21, 2024 by chasfh Quote

Shades of the really weird Aaron Bummer trade. You would need to find a team bereft of 40 man roster talent. Quote

If not the main culprit, that had to have at least contributed significantly to his early retirement. Now having typed what I've typed about Guerrero Jr's body not being in for the long haul, he'll probably morph into Schwarber Jr. Quote
Timmitch55 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 I've watched McGonigle this year at Joker Marchant. He looks REALLY good. His OBP doubles guy. FAST. GRITTY GAMER I really like him. No way I trade him. Quote
