I began this season with mild interest, that eventually escalated into despair, and then hope, then amazement, and finally tonight with gratitude.

The unexpected nature of this makes this particular outcome gratifying in ways that are incomparable in my 64 years as a fan. There’s been a lot of high points too numerous to recount, but this is really special and unequaled in how this team seemingly rose from the ashes.

And how quickly they rose. It's like, a totally different team than the one from....July. I've never witnessed a Tigers team improve in such a short period and I've been watching them since 1967.

One of the more promising things about this is that this run wasn't necessarily just some arbitrary thing that happened without reason, there actually is some on field differences to explain it like getting Meadows and Carpenter back. Losing Baez and adding Sweeney, Keith getting better especially defensively and Tork returning and playing better.

Minny now down by 5 in the 8th. All this left to determine is if Det stays ahead of KC. Do we want Baltimore or Houston?

If they play Baltimore I may have to talk my spouse into a drive up north. Amtrak stops in Baltimore, doesn't it?

What are the financial implications if any? Other than the boost in attendance for this week’s games, do the Tigers get any economic benefit from making the playoffs if they don’t host any home games?

Unless they pull a 1969 Mets and go all the way (keeping my powder dry), I do think it's more longer range impacts in terms of marketing for next season and beyond.

Not getting into free agency and other offseason moves, which is a conversation for another day.

The players get a nice payday, but not sure when that kicks in.  For a bunch of young guys making close to the MLB minimum, it could be a windfall.

I agree there have been very real improvements with position players.  The crazy part is the pitching.  Hinch/Fetter have gotten an incredible amunt out of what they had available the last couple of months.

Just checked, Amtrak tickets out of Richmond are fairly scarce next week. Still better than driving.

So, the thing I remember is that if it has rained a lot, the train will stop a lot.  They slow down for safety.  Maybe not in the very busy NE corridor but from Washington down to North Carolina they did and it was a pita.

Sweeney was such a big piece of the equation, even if the offensive stats don't pop on the stat sheet.... very solid defensive piece and was a much more reliable piece than Javy.

It's hard to evaluate because Flaherty was such a good pitcher and you'd never say that Sweeney is a better player than Flaherty, but as we have seen, they are strong enough of an organization with their pitching deparment that they able to backfill trading from strength to bring someone in to address a weakness as well.

Also the defense. These guys are throwing their bodies around with reckless abandon like only twenty something year old males can.

I love that it’s a bunch of kids. No bloated vets hanging around because of a contract.  They’re too dumb to know they have to wait.  Tonight was an amazing night at the park. The teams prior, even2006, had stress involved. This team just took it and didn’t care. They don’t know you have to wait. **** it. We take.

I can't ****ing believe though that this team rallied back and made this improbable run to get into the postseason. This moment, this run, today's game, is what you really live for as a fan of any sports team. We're playing with house money now, so this anything that happens after this is gravy.

Helluva job by AJ Hinch, Chris Fetter, this staff, every Tiger player, Scott Harris, the player development staff. Incredible job all around by the entire organization really for making the impossible somehow possible. What a ****ing last month and a half this has been. We're in the damn playoffs. WOW!!!
