lordstanley
Baltimore beat Minnesota 7-2. What an embarrassing Twins collapse. Royals clinch a playoff spot. Tigers fans will need to wait a few days until the divisional round to see the Tigers host.
RandyMarsh
The Twins collapse was epic! They can't even blame missing the playoffs on the Tigers going on an unreal run cause even without us they'd still probably would've lost out to Seattle due to the choke job. KC is going to make the playoffs after finishing 30 out last season. The Central has really been through the blender and back in a year. They’re too dumb to know they have to wait. Tonight was an amazing night at the park. The teams prior, even2006, had stress involved. This team just took it and didn’t care. They don’t know you have to wait. **** it. We take. That 2006 team was the complete opposite. They were in total control of the division and then got swept by the last-place Royals to lose the division on the final day. IIRC the Tigers were so desperate to win the division they pitched Kenny Rogers out of the bullpen the final game. I remember the sinking feeling knowing they would have to go to New York vs hosting Oakland.

oblong
Tomorrow’s game will be interesting. Hinch didn’t do “Sunday lineups”. These guys may just sleep in the clubhouse. 12 hours until BP!

Tenacious D
I’ll bet Maeda gets a start, or significant innings. Might be his last game of the year. Would also like to see Jobe get a start.

As a bullpen piece in a short series, I don't know why you wouldn't carry Jobe.... high leverage situations may be tough for where he is at on his trajectory, but the stuff is too good to leave on the sidelines Edited September 28 by mtutiger
Scottwood
This whole team is young and there is not a single UFA on the current 28 man roster. Only Maeda is up in 2026. Otherwise, the whole team is under team control for the next 2 seasons. With making the playoffs this year, and probably much better ballpark attendance next season, Illitch should hopefully open the wallet up a bit these next 2 years and spend more like a mid market team to fill holes in the lineup. Regardless, they have a nice 3 year contending window counting this year's playoffs.

The Tigers poor early season record allowed those teams to build a lead. The Twins and Royals poor play in the late season allowed the Tigers to catch them by winning at a .650 clip. But we never would have caught them if we weren't playing great baseball. Right, both things had to happen: the epic run AND the epic collapse. It doesn't take away from the accomplishment of the first part to acknowledge that the second part was necessary to make the playoffs. There were no playoff spots back then You either won the AL or the NL, or you went home. There were five teams in a ten team league that had a shot in the final week of the season, and the Tigers lost their final 2 games and lost out. This season has been more exciting as this season was a total surprise, while the Tigers were expected to be in contention in 1967. **** Jim Fregosi
papalawrence
After the trade deadline passed I believe Det was in line for a top 6 pick in the draft. I confess I thought things would go in an opposite direction than they did. The past decade clouded my lens. Incredible time to be a Tigers fan! I also think there are likely 14 or 15 position players for the first round, so you will likely see Malloy and Jung. Malloy, in particular, if the other team is likely to throw some lefties.
