It seemed like there were a fair number of players’ parents on the field after they clinched last night.  That’s a fantastic touch.  I don’t know if I’ve seen that before.

when they were all Mexicans they couldn't get into the country.

Yeah, you bring up a point.  I remember when Wenceel Perez was on the Have a Seat podcast, he mentioned his family had never seen him play in the states.  There are lots of hoops to jump through for the international players.  I don’t know what MLB or the individual teams can do to help with that.

He should win it. He did more actual managing to get here than any other.

A.J. absolutely should get Manager of the Year for shepherding a team full of rookies expected to do doodlysquat to the promised land.

Who are the other serious candidates? Matt Quatraro? The Royals loaded up for a Central Division title in the offseason and he still oversaw an epic collapse that saw the Royals come thisclose to falling out of the playoffs entirely. Where are his managing skills now?

Joe Espada? The super-talented Astros were supposed to run away with the West from day one and instead sleepwalked through the whole first quarter of the season. Where were his managing skills then?

Aaron Boone? For taking a Yankees team that was expected to win a pennant to the Eastern Division title everyone assumed they would in the first place? What managing magic did he pull off here?

Brandon Hyde? The Orioles won 101 games last year. Weren’t they expected to be better than this? Why should he win for managing below expectations?

Honestly, I think anyone who doesn’t vote for A.J. should have to explain their vote.

Maybe, but if we don’t score against Burnes, we will have wasted a Skubal start.  It matters in a 3 game series.

Flip side, if we can score against Burnes and get a Skubal win, that makes winning one of the next two a lot a lot easier. No way should A.J. lay up against the O’s in game one by putting anyone but our best guy out there.

Nobody said that.

Baltimore probably shouldn't start Burnes in game 1, because if they don't score against Skubal they will have wasted a Burnes start.

So, regardless of order, I’m guessing Baltimore’s top two starters are Burnes and Eflin.
Skubal is going to start game one. The big question, who would Hinch start in game two, be it at Baltimore or Houston?

You definitely didn't say that, although I (and I believe a few others here) inferred your post as suggesting perhaps we should save Skubal for Game 2 so we don't waste a great start from him by still losing to Burnes, and I can now see how you did not mean to imply that.

Not even close.  I was making the case for preferring to face Houston.  I think Burnes might be the second best starting pitcher in the AL, and he has owned us this season.

Neither matchup will be easy.  I do think we can beat either, though.  We’re playing with house money, so there is no downside to this postseason.
