If Javy comes to ST and hits, and then starts the season and is doing reasonable damage at the plate, he'll fit in well enough. If he doesn't, then yeah - you've got a problem. The worst thing that can happen is that for whatever the reason, they can't get a good read what his performance projects to be so things drag out into the early season and becomes a distraction. If the performance isn't there, I don't see what they can do other than DFA him. Trade would seem impossible. You just hope the DFA decision if necessary, can come sooner rather than later. Spring training is more for the guys they want to be on the team to get in shape. They know before ST starts who pretty much all but one or two guys are that will make the opening day roster. They might feel the need to start the season with him since they owe him so much money, but it's really a sunk cost so shouldn't matter Quote

That’s what my Uncle Ted thought too. He came over from Russia and became one of the top money players in NYC. He even had his own little underground poker room. Everything was great until the day some hot shot law school kid came in cleaned him out. We’ve never heard from him again. Every 10 years or so I hear a rumor that maybe he’s coming back but it never actually materializes. 1 Quote

I think the Tigers showed at the end of the year that they aren't going mess with under performers anymore. If Baez does comeback and doesn't hit, I think he'll be gone really quickly. Quote
oblong Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 I wouldn’t be surprised if at least 7-8 guys on this roster do not finish 2025 with the team. Thats baseball. You can’t project lineups a year out. 1 Quote

lordstanley Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 I think that even if the Tigers' run continues deeper into this post-season, Harris is smart enough to realize this is currently an 80-85 win roster and he has to sit down with Ilitch in November to figure out achievable work to do in order to make it an 85-90 win roster by Opening Day 2025. 1 Quote

If you play carefully, conservative, and know the math, you have a great chance to win. I've played against all sorts of players and you alter your style accordingly. People get in trouble because their ego gets in the way and they call off their money with mediocre hands. No shame in folding a middle hand because the goal is to walk away with more money than you had. Quote

papalawrence Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 Saw today that with the 5 spot from Skubal his post season era ended at 2.37. Regular season 2.39. Playing against the best teams, he was going to give up runs at some point. I'm just now starting to get over the loss. Just don't want the Yankees or Dodgers to win Quote
