Announcers are missing the point. These guys pitching for the Tigers aren't gonna be on the roster for the 1st series.

Bingo. I highly doubt we see Maeda, Mize, and Montero back to back to back, especially after cutting a 5-run lead to 5-4.

And after we win, we avoid the Yankees.

And some things have to fall into a place, but a divisional round of Guardians-Tigers to decide the Central rep and Yankees-Orioles to decide the East rep would be fun.

Steve Stone is patronizingly blowing kisses to John Schiffren for the difficult year he has had following one of the most popular play-by-play guys in baseball.

God damn it, Tork, what the **** did you want on that 3-and-1 cookie?! You should have smoked that 500 feet right out of the ballpark. Christ Almighty, I will not miss you when we deal you this winter.

At least we got a run out of the deal on the bases loaded walk, but Jesus, man, I thought you were aspiring to be a professional hitter.

Maeda won't be on the roster.  Hinch practically said as much earlier.  If they go with 11 pitchers, they'll probably have to keep one of Madden/Mize/Montero.

I know some will disagree, because at the risk of pounding a usually useful phrase to death, we are playing with house money, and anything we do in the playoffs is gravy when considering the long arc of the franchise trajectory, for which the ultimate goal is becoming a contender on a perennial basis, versus leaving it all on the field in the service of a single playoff run.

That said, I wish the Tigers didn't basically lay down these past two games. I think it’s a bad look, I hope A.J. realizes that, and I hope he addresses that with these kids. After all, all we had to do was win one of these games and we’d be off to playing an easier team next week instead of a better team.

I mean, Iook, I will enjoy this coming week no matter what happens, there’s no doubt about that. Even losing a two-game sweep is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, and i will celebrate this season and especially the way they charged into the playoffs in the end. But I will tell you what: if the Royals end up beating a slumping Orioles team at the same time we get smoked out of Houston, I will be a least a little peeved about what could have been.

Montero seems to have outstayed his sell-by date. It's been a while since I thought he pitched well. I think Mize has way more upside than Keider but the way he suddenly loses it so totally when things go South makes him feel like a big risk in a short series tilt too.

Hinch clearly wasn't playing to win with the pitching line-ups. Maybe the brain trust had decided they wanted Houston instead of Baltimore.

Given they have two good LHP starters and three more in the bullpen, I'm not sure if I'd agree with that.

Whether Baltimore or Houston it's going to be tough, but Det should be ready. Would have been tough to beat Baltimore 3 straight series in 3 week period. And Houston starting rotation has been very good. Time to enjoy and see what happens.

Guessing it's Skubal, Olson, kitchen sink.

Regardless this is outstanding experience for the young crew.

Their emotional finish reminds me a little of 1987.  Hopefully, their post-season is better this year.  The difference though is that 1987 was the end of an era making it a bitter defeat.  This year should be the beginning of an extended era of good baseball, so if they do bad in the playoffs it won't sting so much.

I imagine Valdez will start Game 1. Does Hinch sit Carpenter?
