Before we write this series off…if Skubal pitches well and we get a few runs for him on Monday, the Tigers can take the home field advantage.

That sounds good but if Cleveland beats our BP after Skubal departs, we lose for sure. Score 6 or 7 runs and make it an easy win. A LH SP against us stinks, though.

Agreed. Before today’s first pitch I said that to lose two here is too much to overcome going forward.
Must win Monday! No pressure Skub 😉

Are we thinking the off day will help or hurt?

Lions bye week, too. I guess tomorrow will be a good day for me to get some outside stuff done.

Just mowed the front lawn after it was 7-0. I kinda wish they played tomorrow so they can forget this one quickly.

I’ll admit that we went for a walk when it was 5-0. I also admit I asked my wife every 15 minutes to check her phone for the score until we got back in.

Yeah, I did the same, or tried to, but the wisp in the air of our resurgent Idaho range and forest fires, reinvigorated by stiff winds, quickly made that escape unappealing.

Living in the charmed bubble of these last two months, and following only this site and Detroit media sources, it was hard to watch even the pre-game on TV as the national media seemed to slap us in the face with the wet fish their gushing appreciation of all the other teams deemed important — and how no matter what our team has done, it’s still considered a sideshow (and then it responded in kind today).

But it’s just one game and I don’t think this one game is going to deflate the resilience of this club. I hope something germinates within this team during the off day and it charges out of the gate defiantly on Monday.

What’s valuable in a head to head matchup with the best team in your division, you can see our deficiencies so you can start to address during the offseason.

Corners. Infield corners.

100% agree. We need to add 2 legit bats to this lineup. And get Tork the hell out of Detroit.

I was a little surprised to find earlier today the Tigers had a losing record in the regular season in opener games and a 3-6 record in Holton-started games. That didn't jibe with my recollection.

I don’t know if I believe that this franchise will offer long-term contracts of substantial value vastly exceeding its existing payroll to win what could quite possibly prove to be only a few more games and disrupt the “26 Musketeers” élan that seems to be providing dividends right now. It’s not like I have a crystal ball or anything, but I don’t think it’s in the DNA of this team’s ownership to do that.

Chris Ilitch looked like a happy leprechaun when he was getting doused in the locker room and it just seems unlikely to me that if he departs from the way of building this team thus far it will be a moderate departure and nothing really dramatic unless Scott Harris does a really, really good sales job.

I’ll bet Pete Alonso is a target.  Apparently the Mets don’t want to pay him.

Would be a nice add.

We also have a strong farm system that will allow us to trade for another impact bat as well if one becomes available.

We absolutely need to add somebody, preferably a RHH, that we can pencil in for a 120+ OPS+.

Vierling/Keith going from 3rd/5th to 5th/6th would really give you a deeper lineup, probably a fringe top 10 lineup, with upside for more depending on the development from the young guys. Like if Keith is able to make a jump to a 110-115 OPS+ guy that's probably a top 10 lineup. Greene making a jump to a 145-150 guy would also do that.

There is a very clear path to a top 5 lineup by adding an Alonso type and trading for another impact hitter at the deadline, or preferably in the off-season.

For every positive huge free agent signing in MLB, there seems to be at least 2 awful contracts. Look at Detroit's history - Zimmermann, Baez. Upton was so-so. Look at the Angels history. So many bad signings

I want Det to add 2 bats as much as anyone, but Alonso's ops dropped below 800. I think Harris stays the course with some mid tier signings and to continue replenishing from the farm.

Det is building an identity - versatility, aggressive on the base paths, solid defense, lots of pitching. Control the strike zone (but their obp was 29th in MLB).
