Betrayer Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 I'll be happy to see real games, but that was a good note to end preseason on. Pistons starters played just 8 minutes and looked great against Cavs starters who played about 25 minutes, well into the 3rd quarter. Quote
Deleterious Posted October 17, 2024 Author Posted October 17, 2024 I thought this team would look a lot different on opening night considering they changed GM's. But this is pretty much the team Weaver would have thrown out there as well. Really confusing. 1 Quote

WTF did they think Bally's is? lets not be naive, though they paid for the banner, Bally was never a presence. I'd have to guess there is little chance that will be true of FanDuel, who seem more likely to try to monetize every square inch of your screen and every line of dialog in the PBP. Quote
Deleterious Posted October 20, 2024 Author Posted October 20, 2024 This is fine if the contract is only for a year. But taking on long term salary for picks is one of the dumbest ideas you could come up with right now. Cade has a max deal. Ivey and Duren are up next summer. This team is about to get expensive really fast. You don't take bad contract this deep into a rebuild. Quote
Deleterious Posted October 20, 2024 Author Posted October 20, 2024 One of the worst seasons in franchise history. You would think we would be on the most list. Quote

But have you seen all the work they’ve done in the community this offseason. They are the developer on an affordable housing project! Who else in the league is doing cutting edge stuff like that to earn valuable tax credits for their balance sheet. They are playing chess while the rest of the league plays checkers. Quote
Deleterious Posted October 21, 2024 Author Posted October 21, 2024 Killian Hayes should join the staff as their shooting coach. Quote

Weird. If the only requirement is standard roster spot, then shouldn't Pistons be in the "6 new players" list? Harris, Hardaway, Beasley, Reed, Holland, Klintman They also have one open roster spot which will go to someone that will be #7 and you could make a case that Fontecchio should be an honorable mention in that group as well since he only played 16 games and was acquired at the deadline. RandyMarsh Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 Not sure if it's been mentioned on here or not but I just found out that JEIII is now the Knicks beat writer for the Athletic. Quote

Wash, rinse, repeat. It's fine, I really didn't expect big changes this offseason as the young assets don't have much value and there's point in selling low, but it's a roster built to suck again unless the young guys take a big leap forward. Again, wash rinse repeat pretty much. Quote
Betrayer Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Not sure what people expected or wanted. Lavine? Brandon Ingram for 50M/yr? Nobody is expecting a playoff team, but the doom and gloom here is pretty bad. This isn't the same team as last year and these aren't nearly the same vets. 45% of the total minutes played were from guys who are no longer on the team. We're talking about garbage players like Wiseman (1000 minutes), Livers (500), Bagley (500 minutes), and more. 30% of the total minutes played last year were from guys who aren't even in the league anymore. Led by Killian who started 31 games and played 1000 minutes. Knox with 500 minutes. Fournier with 500 minutes. Metu had 400 minutes. Umude had 300 minutes. The two vets who got the most minutes last year (~900 each), didn't get much run on an NBA playoff team after being traded. They're also 35 and 33 years old with a ton of injury history. Conversely, the two top vets this year are 32 (Tobias) and 27 (Beasley), having started 70 and 77 games respectively for playoff teams last year. Oh, and they willingly signed here. Even the depth vets (Reed, Fontecchio, THJ) are guys who can fill out a roster and play in the NBA unlike Gibson, Harris, and Fournier. But most importantly, the coaching terrorist is gone and from what we've seen so far this team is running actual NBA sets on offense, with actual NBA rotations and staggering. Imagine that. Putting solid, floor-raising vets around your young core without burdening yourself with long contracts was the right move. You don't have the assets to trade for a superstar, so you need to see if your core pans out. If the core looks legitimate alongside real vets and an actual coach, then you have the cap flexibility to continue to build. If not, it's a great draft to start the rebuild over and then you can move some players this offseason. A Brandon Ingram band-aid wasn't getting you anywhere except back to Blake Griffin land. Quote

It's not really doom and gloom. I said in the previous post that I didn't expect big changes this offseason but the reality is that it's the same young core group surrounded by cast-off vets just like previous years. At least Monty isn't here anymore so that's something to get excited about. 1 Quote

The organization is 100% focused on development. Granted much of that is real estate but it’s still counts as development. Quote
