MichiganCardinal Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 This is not finalized yet, it takes about a day to cross all the t's and dot all the i's, but if it stands it will indeed be the worst performance in the 2024 postseason to date, and one of the worst postseason performances in MLB history. Skubal recorded four strikes on two of his eight strikeouts, and five strikes on one of them. Quote

Tiger337 Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Strangely, I feel no anxiety about the games at all. It's a great story regardless of the outcome. I get all the enjoyment and none of the anxiety. 3 Quote

tiger2022 Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 The schedule is very helpful to the Tigers. Play a game, a day off, play a game, a day off, play 2 games, a day off, and a final game. I'm assuming the Tigers are going with a one man rotation and then bullpen games. Wed and Thursday will be bullpen games. They have 11 pitchers for those two games so they should be all set and then if they have a game 5, Skubal can pitch on his 5th day. Quote
Screwball Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 I fessed up a few days ago as an inverse baseball fan for years, but have been drawn into this Tiger magic recently. My goal today was to avoid news until I could finish my part time job and be able to watch the game when I got home. Fat chance, right? But I did. Wow!!! What an incredible baseball game. It had it all. Drama for 9 innings. Zero runs until the 9th. And against Cleveland - spit - and I live in Ohio. I think I might have tweaked something when Carp hit the homer. I have now watched Skubal a couple of times. Small sample size, I know, but this guy is a Stud, with a capital S (I know, no **** Sherlock). Other than a little bump in the road in the 6th, I think it was, this guy was fricken lights out tonight (well, I guess a couple of timely double plays didn't hurt either). I love watching him. He's got a funny delivery, and it really fits into the fastball/change up thing that serves him so well. Deceptive. Along with a high 90 heater. Not hard to find guys with high 90 heaters, but all high 90 heaters are not the same. I'm guessing his is doing things others don't. This continues to be an incredible story. 1 Quote

I think Olson is effectively the #2 starter now. Even if they open with Holton, the expectation for Olson is at 5IP + Edited October 8, 2024 by gehringer_2 Quote
Scottwood Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 (edited) I think Hurter will be the bulk guy in game 3 and Olson will be the bulk guy in game 4. It will be a short leash either way. What was interesting is they elected to go to Brieske in the 9th instead of Foley. Foley hasn't pitched since game 1 against Houston. Edited October 8, 2024 by Scottwood Quote

As of now, Brieske and Vest are the leverage guys. Interesting question if Hinch's growing confidence in Brieske late mean we won't see him open again? Quote
clark1mt Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 I went back and watched the 8th inning Kwan catch replay review, listening to both the DET and CLE radio feeds. Interestingly, both Dan and Bobby were convinced it was a catch, and the Cleveland broadcast was convinced it was a trap. Quote
tiger2022 Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 I'm not surprised Foley hasn't been used since game 1 at Houston. There's zero reason for him to throw a pitch in a high leverage situation. He's a 3 run inning just waiting to happen Quote

I think it’s atrocious for an umpire to say that a ball that the naked eye can clearly see bounce bounced off of a small strip of fast moving leather as opposed to the ground though. He’s just blindly guessing at that point. 1 Quote

I wonder if it was simply a matter of Brieske already warming up? Plus Foley puts a lot of balls in play. Maybe the braintrust was hoping for a 1-0 and just thought the risk/reward vs Cleveland's lineup was more favorable to a better swing & miss option? Quote
casimir Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 So, which was more odd visually? The home plate umpire's fluctuating strike zone or @chasfh in jeggings? Quote

I exploded when the ball left Carpenter's bat. I forgot who warning tracked one to RF shortly before that, but I thought that one was going to carry until Noel started walking in on the ball after retreating to the wall. But the launch off of Carpenter's bat, that was a release of some nerves for me. But I have to agree with the aging variable. I think it tempers down the emotions a bit. Either that or the reality of the unexpected climb from nowhere into the playoffs has rendered this time as simply enjoyable. Quote

RandyMarsh Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Maybe it's age, maybe it's the decade of misery that just numbed me to my sports teams but I don't get as anxious or invested in them as I used to. I mean I still care and am excited when they do well but the losses don't bother me like they used to. Quote
