The first thing the Lions will be looking for is someone that fits the culture.

Reddick doesn’t fit any of the criteria. Can’t play de in detroit’s system, can’t cover from the  sam, probably isn’t a culture fit

If you had Maxx Crosby on your team would you be happy with that trade?

I would be. That’s arguably a better haul than what the Lions got for Stafford. Goff was seen as a liability at the time and he was unloaded on the Lions for additional pick. As a Raider fan, getting Houston wouldn’t do anything for me but that seems like a good haul for a non QB on a rebuilding team.

One thing for all of us to remember regarding Crosby is this is the Raiders.

Trying to think about what makes the most sense logically is usually the opposite of what they do.   Maybe Crosby is a real possibility.   Then again, maybe they don’t want to acquire extra draft picks to get their next QB.

if the raiders thought hendon hooker was a franchise qb they would have drafted him.

i like HH, and i'd give him time to develop some more, but he hasnt shown anyone anything that would indicate he is a franchise qb.

truth.  the raiders are bad for a reason.

and that reason owns the team.

I don't see the Lions trading their backup QB away during the season.  If Goff would go down for 3-4 games, they'd be completely done for.  With Hooker, there is at least hope he's been in the system enough to win 50% of the games and keep them in contention.

Bah... just pick up Sudfeld. I'm sure he's available.

Alim's new deal seems to set the table for an acquisition ..we know what it will cost now to keep im..that give Holmes and co a budget to work wihin to create The Greatest DLine of Our Times

Interesting point. Makes me wonder if the Alim deal would have been completed now if Hutch does not break his leg, and that's not to suggest that Holmes thinks Alim is less important than he is. If this is true, its a great strategy and evidence that Holmes is staying ahead, not reacting. He's one hell of a GM.

Holmes mentioned after the Decker extension they were working on a deal with McNeil. Often times deals get done during the bye week. They got Montgomery’s deal done during the bye and likely got most of McNeil’s. Probably just coincidence it got done after the Hutchinson injury.

Could they get Crosby for a  2025 2nd Round and 2026 3rd Round?

They likely couldn't even get Crosby and a 2025 1st and 2026 2nd and by likely I mean no chance.

JJ Watt would be awesome, he was still really good his final year, but he seems to really like the family life so I'd put the chances of him coming back right down there with the Lions chances to land Crosby.

If you want a good comparison for what Crosby would cost you should look at the Mack trade in 2018.  BTW Mack was the same age (27) at the time of the trade.  Big difference is Mack had a contract dispute which Crosby does not.

Raiders received 2 1rsts, 3rd, and 6th

Bears received Mack, 2nd, and conditional 5th

I seriously doubt that Watt has stayed in football shape, so I'd expect he'd need at least 3-4 weeks to get into shape. But as far as I can tell he is a free agent so at least we wouldn't have to spend resources beyond just money.

That said, like you indicated I think it's unlikely he'd want to come back.

With the core group of this roster under longterm deals, maybe it does make sense to start trading off future high draft picks for pieces that can get them to the top.   The Rams had huge success with this plan while Brad was with them and they were contending for titles.  The Lions are in a much better position than they were at the same stage regarding key players locked up for many years.

Trade the 1sts and 2nds and start using later round picks to add depth and of course hit big on some future studs like they’ve always been able to do.   Let free agency be an area where they let players go and turn them into future 3rd and 4th round compensatory picks instead of trying to sign big name FA that they won’t be able to afford.

I guess what I’m saying is maybe it does make more sense to give up two future ones for Maxx Crosby and resign him as part of the core.

It would not make sense for your core to include $50 million in payroll on two defensive ends. That is more than all but GB and CIN spend on their entire DL. It would only make sense if Crosby demanded a trade to DET and was willing to play out his existing contract with no extension, or signed an extension knowing that he would be traded as soon as Detroit signs Hutch to his second deal.
