Well today is going to be stressful for many reasons lol

This is clearly the Browns hoping for a better pick.  I would like to see a conditional pick here.  We make the super bowl and it becomes a better pick.  Its a good bet for the Browns with how we're playing.  I have heard the Lions have been on the phone with multiple teams (including Titans and Giants) so they have bargaining chips as well.  With how we are playing, I wonder if a team would make a better offer to stop us from getting Smith or someone else.

How crazy would it be that the reason were waiting till today is because were still hoping for Garrett or Crosby.  Maybe Smith deal is in place but they are making sure there isn't a chance in getting them.

To bad there weren't rental deals out there.  We will give you a 2nd (1rs if we make the SB) just for this year and you can have him back next year....lol.

Just thinking out loud but I think a rental is less likely to get Holmes to trade. I think he's going to want something more than just a 2-3 months of a player for a pick.

Edit to add: I also worry about if the Lions are trying to get something better and so waiting on Smith... that can bite you in the butt. If we're waiting for something better and the Brown get an offer from someone else while we're waiting might they pull the trigger and then we're left with nothing?

There was a rumor earlier that the Browns were the ones waiting, hoping for a better offer than what the Lions were willing to do. That would make me less nervous if true.

Wow, highway robbery!

Reports where that the Browns wanted a good 3rd day pick for him, so you think 4th, maybe high 5th. Obviously the Lions do not have a 4th and their 5th is likely going to be pretty far down the round, so this looks like about what the Browns were hoping. They get a late 5th instead of an early 5th, but the move up from the 7th round to the 6th round the following year to compensate.

So, I don't know that I'd call it highway robbery, but if that's really the deal I'm more than okay with it. Smith is still under contract for 2025, right?

Per Spotrac, Smith is owed a base salary of $1.5 million and a signing bonus of $4.025 million next season and will carry a 2025 cap hit of $9.433 million. By trading for Smith, the Lions will owe him $605,000 guaranteed this season and $11 million guaranteed next year.

Holmes is the best GM in the league. He called Cleveland's bluff on giving up the higher pick (if rumors are to be believed) and held steadfast on this offer while his team continues to pile up W's and Cleveland blinked. What a stud.

Now I wonder if the Lions are even done. They still have the good picks, outside of their 3rd of course.

So we lose a 5th round pick (which will be the LAST pick of the round, right?) next year and we swap a 6th for a 7th in 2026.    The way these guys find talent, that is not really a drop off.

So basically a 5th round pick for a very good edge rusher.

I LIKE IT!

The needed something.

I still want them to go out and add some defensive depth.....LB or DE.

Great trade for us.  Not a lot of negatives.  Contract is good and only for one more year and won't cause any issues with us signing any of our current players.

The 6th and 7th could very possibly be 10 picks or less apart so it's essentially just a 5th rounder. Tidy piece of work by the villain, wouldn't be surprised to see another move to shore up depth because one injury to Smith and they're back to Square One.

If they add someone like Arden Key, that defensive line suddenly looks pretty solid.

Yeah I think we've seen over the last few games that we haven't gotten a lot of pressure on the QB and we need to hArden that defensive line up. Our secondary isn't bad but give any receiver/QB all day to throw and they'll eventually get someone open. More pressure will be a Key moving forward.

I see your hints. Getting Smith was very good news to wake up to.
