Show me a team that has $55-60 million tied up in two defensive ends. I'll wait.

I remember now why I had you on ignore. I'll leave you there.

If the Lions acquired Crosby, they would have $40.22 milion (prorated) between he and Hutch this year, and $39.58 million in 2025. Crosby is locked in at $24.82 million for 2026, so the Lions could move him after 2025 if they needed to make room for Hutch's new contract -- and that's assuming Hutch fully recovers from his injury to be the same player he was before it. If he doesn't (and isn't), you can extend Crosby. Either way, the Lions would have options after the 2025 season.

Agree that if they were to make a move for Crosby it would only work if he knew he would be traded when Hutch signs. They are both going to ask for almost $30 million a year. No way they could keep both as part of their “core.”

It would be fantastic if Brad could get Crosby here. They would need to put a statue of him at Ford Field the very next day because it would be a miracle if he can get it done.

You're assuming Hutch will be the same when he returns, which is not guaranteed. Also, the cap could be $40-million higher by 2026. Look, I don't think it's gonna happen, but it's not as fantastical a proposition as you're making it seem.

Reports on Hutch are no ligament damage, no vascular damage, clean break. So yes I am assuming he will be back 100%. I am also assuming that when it is time to pay him he will get the richest contract for a DE in NFL history.

For the record, I would love for it to happen, and so, apparently, would Maxx Crosby! He now has an “ankle injury” after toying with us for the last week on social media. (I think he got injured in the same drill as Davante Adams did.)

There is still a long way to go, though, and yes, trading for Crosby is still a fantastical proposition. But I hope Brad can git r dun!

What does Shefter mean by needing the help and cooperation of another team? Is he talking about a 3-way trade or just the team with the pass rusher? I can't see why the Lions couldn't get something done for Za'Darius Smith. Shouldn't cost a lot and he doesn't have a huge contract.

I think all he is saying is that Detroit can't trade for a player if the player's current team doesn't want to trade that player. And I think this leak was specifically targeted at all of the smoke around Crosby. Mark Davis is already out there saying they don't want to trade Crosby and it would take a massive deal to pry him away.

I don't think Holmes will make a move until he sees the Lions get burned several times because of no pass rush. Why trade away draft capital if the Lions just keep on winning?

Today will be interesting. We can't give Darnold all day. It's unlikely the Titans offensive line is much challenge for us. But then the Packers. I'd prefer to add another weapon before heading to Lambeau.

Go get a DE.  I am good with two 1rst for Garrett or Crosby.  If they can't get them then I would be good with a player like Smith although I then want them to get another LB/DE as well.  Paschal can't stay healthy and Malcolm has been great but I want to add some depth there as well.  This team is not like SF and they have a small window for the SB although I don't feel like trading draft picks now will shorten the window.  Go for the SB.

Why do you feel that they have a smaller window than SF? Seems to me that Holmes & Campbell are just as good as Lynch & Shanahan... The core is in place and has largely been locked down. So long as the draft picks we have (even if we trade some away) continue to develop into serviceable players, this is sustainable for the foreseeable future.

the browns cant take garrett's cap hit AND watson's guaranteed money cap hit.  their books are going to be amazingly effed up.

otoh, they ****ed up enormously signing watson for that much guaranteed money and they are basically screwed for the next three years until he's off the books.  they cant cut him.

also otoh, the browns need to get rid of anything of value and get picks.  theyre done for the next two or three seasons.

I my opinion I don't think Holmes is going to go out and spend a lot of capital on a rental. It HAS to be a player who can help now and for the next few years at least. Crobsy could be that player, sure... but: What's the price? Let's say 2 firsts (I honestly think it's gonna cost more than that).

Would Crosby give us more value over the next 3-5 years than two first rounds would give us? I tend to think no, not with how Holmes drafts.

So then the next question is this: Will Crosby get you a ring in the next 1-3 years that you'll miss over the next 4-6? Do you anticipate the team falling off in terms of the mythical "window of opportunity" and not being a contender? Again, I tend to think no.

I would love to see the Lions add to the DE spot, for a reasonable price. But I wouldn't really want them to go all out.

Sorry my message was probably confusing.  What I meant to say is SF had a small window and we don't.  We have a young team and a lot of those players will be with us for a while.

I don't think they need to go after Crosby or Garrett to win the SB this year although I think it would increase the chances.  I do think they can be in a win now mode and trade away some draft picks (for a better chance at the SB/Championship) and not shorten their window because they are so young.

Agree. Doesn't seem his MO, but maybe he's never been in this position. The alternative is pick up depth and do a lot of rotation to keep guys fresh.

I just think you have to go for it in this league when you have a shot.  I also feel like this team can absorb losing a couple of those picks because they have been so good in the draft.  I won't get upset if Holmes doesn't make a splash at the deadline because I fully trust him and really we don't know who was actually available.  They might of already called inquiring about a player like Crosby and the team isn't willing to trade under any circumstances.

I was kind of going back and forth on the Crosby idea, this all assuming that he's even remotely available, and now I'm all in as long as it's just two 1sts+minor stuff.

I originally thought that he had just 1 more year left on his contract so 2 playoff runs essentially but now I see that he has 2 years left so 3 playoff runs with him and 2 with he and Hutch, plus his contract expires right when Hutch's new one kicks in so it's a perfect financial fit. I actually think Holmes would be interested for this very reason but also because he's the perfect culture fit. I'm skeptical that he's available at all but if he is I can see it being more palatable now.

Holmes is not the type to go big game hunting but if there is the type of player, and contract, that he would do it for it's Crosby. It's probably like a 1% chance of happening but I'd put it at non-zero whereas I was at zero before learning the contract details.
