I think he makes an all-star team even before his initial contract is up. Can barrel it up to all fields. Like Riley he falls into over swing mode too much. It's so hard to get young players (and old ones for that matter) to understand the physics that at their bat speed levels, barreling the ball is more important than swinging the bat hard(er). Tiger337 Posted October 24 Share Posted October 24 (edited) I mostly agree. As with every young player, I think there is a very wide range of outcomes including many bad ones. I think McAuliffe would be a good outcome as a player with 8 consecutive above average years in his prime. I also think it's a reasonable target. If he moves to first base, then hitting like McAuliffe would not be such a good outcome, but he does have the potential to do better than that. I have a hunch Lee will impress and end up at 2nd and Keith could be 3rd or 1B. Just a gut feeling. gehringer_2 Posted October 24 Share Posted October 24 It's been fun watching how good Keith has gotten at turning DPs, he is quick and his arm in general is strong and accurate, his hands seem fine as well. The problem for Colt is range, and as he gets older it's hard to imagine that big body is going to get any quicker. Because of the arm and the turn, he's OK at 2B now, but sure, it's easy to imagine a significantly better defender coming through the pipeline like Lee. CMU97 Posted October 27 Share Posted October 27 I may be optimistic, but I see his ceiling as Pete Rose, with maybe a little more power. He has the hit tool, I expected him to be a .300 hitter or better most of his career. And like Rose, I think he has the ability to move around to different positions as needed and be more than adequate. I don't know if he can become a gold glove at multiple positions, but be better than replacement. I think the bottom would be a Greg Gagne type. Not a gold glover, but incredibly consistant and durable. Hit .250-.280 with 10-20 homers for 10 years. Rose would be great, but I would take Gagne.
