Week Nine: Detroit Lions (6-1) @ Green Bay Packers (6-2)

Recommended Posts

Because none of the coaches (Indy, Minny, Tampa & KC) are in jeopardy

NEW HOT SEAT RANKING !!!

1. Dennis Allen, New Orleans.    Wouldn't shock me to see it happen tomorrow, but 2 more weeks until the bye.  They've fallen off a cliff.

2. Doug Pederson, Jacksonville.   He may survive the season, but they were supposed to be the AFC version of the Lions.  They've gone the wrong way

3. Mike McCarthy, Dallas.   I wouldn't expect Jerry to make a move mid-season, unless they loss 3 or 4 in a row.  Well....they've got Philly, Houston and DC next.  If they get hammered at home against Philly, it might happen.  Mike Zimmer has Head Coaching experience and can certainly fill in as an Iterim.    $60 million for Dak Prescott?  Yikes

4. Kevin Seftanski, Cleveland - A Year after winning Coach Of The Year?   Yep.  Cleveland had expectations.

5. Antonio Pierce, Las Vegas - It's a mess.  But that's what you get for hiring that jackass Josh McDaniel.  You get pain, long after he's gone.

I don't think Brian Daboll is in jeopardy this year.     If the Bears collapse Matt Erberflus is certainly on this list.

That graphic they showed about Goff completing his last 30 throws targeted to St. Brown is insane. Even if you want to say that most of the throws were relatively "easy" that is still crazy. Not a single miscommunication, dropped ball, wayward throw, pass break up etc. for 30 straight times is really remarkable. Says alot about both of them.

Soon someone will do a deep dive into how the Ben Johnson Goffense compares to the great, historic NFL offenses. It is just unreal for an offense to perform like this. They are efficient in the passing game and explosive in the running game, which is opposite of how everyone tries to do it! Really incredible.

Wait what. You don't think daboll is in jeopardy?

If he's employed tomorrow it will be shocking

My biggest fear with Branch, right now, is that the league tries to save face by doubling down on the punishment.

Kinda like when instead of admitting that there was a mistake by the refs in the Dallas game last year they put out there that the Lions did it wrong and issues specific directions on what teams were supposed to do (which is actually what the Lions did).

I can totally see the NFL hearing people complain that the ejection was unfair by say: "Oh, you think that? Well, not only was it TOTALLY the right thing to do but it was SOOOO bad of a hit that we're also going to suspend Branch for 3 games just to show you how positive we are that it was a bad hit."

Now whenever someone brings up a bad hit and asks why that person didn't get ejected but Branch did the obvious rebuttal will be: Well, that may have been a bad hit, but it wasn't so bad that the player was suspended, was it?

I'd be more shocked if he's suspended than I was that he was ejected. He'll get a hefty fine for the hit, made heftier by the double birds. But he'll be back next week, albeit with lighter pockets.

Big win, Lions played well, but the pass rush was still an issue from the edge (inside pass rush was stout as usual with Alim). Just get Za'Darius and make a real Superbowl run.

the margin of play between the two teams was a  less than showed on the scoreboard. Lions were better because they did what they had to at few critical points while GB didn't, but I'm not getting too far over my skis that this game says the Lions can't sill lose again.

Also I'd be remiss if I didn't mentioning Bates given that I was a big fanboy of his from his season with the Panthers. I'll be honest with you was was always a little nervous that playing in the NFL was going to get to Bates and he'd end up folding under the pressure. The early missed extra point in the season didn't help. But that's turned out to be his one and only blemish so far. And he was perfect in GB in the cold, windy, rain, nailing a 27 yarder plus 3 extra points.

Out of 31 extra point attempts he's made 30. For FGs he's been perfect.

3 for 3 from the 20-29 yard range
5 for 5 from the 30-39 yard range
3 for 3 from the 40-49 yard range
1 for 1 from the 50+ yard range

Will Love get the same reputation as Goff for not being able to handle pressure?

I didn't realize that he's thrown 10 INTs for far this year, and that's with missing 2 games. He hasn't had a game year were he hasn't thrown an INT. (Compare that with Willis who hasn't thrown an INT yet in his 2+ games... but has thrown 3 TDs.)

Love has a completion percentage of just 61.2%. Looking at the 25 QBs who've thrown at least 200 times this season, wanna guess where he ranks? 25th.

I don't think Love is necessarily bad, but I'm also not as worried about him as I might have been earlier.

It's insane to think about just how good this team is when you consider where we were four years ago. Even three years ago. Halloween 2021 we lost 44-6 to the Eagles at home to drop to 0-8. A car hit me crossing the street after I left Ford Field.

Flash forward three years, we lost the front runner for DPOY three weeks ago and didn't lose a step, improving now to 7-1. No car has hit me since.

Now, there ABSOLUTELY are times when this can be true. A worse team comes in and plays really well, the other team makes some mistakes and you get an upset game.

That is NOT what happened here. The Lions won the NFCNorth last year. They made it to the NFC Championship game. The Lions this year are 6-1. They beat the Vikings at their home while you lost to them at your home. The Lions are routinely being ranked top 1-3 in power rankings. This was NOT a case of a lesser team upsetting a better team.

Absolutely the right call to throw him out for that absolute cheap shot. Was it worth it branch?  3rd and 20, instead it’s 1st and 10 and you’re ejected for an egregious unnecessary cheap shot.  Game changer.

What a crock of ****. Are you sure you're a Lions fan? Jeez.  Even the unbiased announcers that it was absurd to kick him out. I usually just laugh off your ridiculous GDT posts but this one is ridiculous, even for you.

For my next bold prediction:

Tuesday will come after Monday this week.

I never thought Allen was an inspired pick to begin with.
