lordstanley Posted November 19, 2024 Author Posted November 19, 2024 Paul Woods said that “both teams are playing at a high level”. I’m not watching, but somehow I doubt that. 3-3 after 2. The Wings have taken the lead 3 times, blown the lead 3 times. Quote

If Yzerman doesn't fire LaLonde, then Yzerman needs to be fired. Enough already. No more waiting on this. Rebuilding a mediocre 8th seed playoff team doesn't take this long. This is a failure. Quote
Hongbit Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 They have 2 days off before 4 of 5 at home. Perfect time to make a move is this morning. Quote
buddha Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 putting all the anger about this season aside and looking at the big picture, this season was what i (sort of) thought it might be coming into the year: a throw away year. next year the cap goes up, their prospects from early yzerman drafts SHOULD be up (huge caveat there), they get rid of lalonde and get a developmental coach. get a high pick (lol, they'll pick 6th) this year and next year they should start to see progress. all that said, watch them do nothing and not spend on any top free agents because no one can make more than the "captain". The talent pipeline hasn't been what it has needed to be, and the team's quality of play is regressing. I could also believe Yzerman has decided the only alternative is to tank one more time for another high pick, but then why spend the money on Kane, etc.... Quote
Shinzaki Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Are Petry/Holl doing anything Tuomisto can't do here? Is Chiarot/Gustafsson doing anything Buium can't do? Quote
lordstanley Posted November 19, 2024 Author Posted November 19, 2024 I have no idea of the top-end quality or of the depth of this year's draft class. Sloth? Would a #5 pick this year yield a stud who'd be able to make the team the year after next? Quote
lordstanley Posted November 19, 2024 Author Posted November 19, 2024 I think 7-9-2 for 16 points in 18 games still flatters the Wings. Almost 1/4 of the season and they’ve played worse than that dismal record. Quote

Have to say that four years in this is not what I expected Steve Yzerman's organization to look like - not even so much the overall winning percentage but just the roster and style of play. I mean, if you look at the product on the Ice you would never know without being told that Holland wasn't still the GM. The whole team has an old player, old school, old style aura about. Which is all the more telling in contrast to where the Tigers and Lions have positioned themselves in their respective sports. I can't think of a worse indictment for the FO than that. No, not at all. We're treading into Ken Holland territory with an overreliance on veteran players who aren't performing any better than some of the younger guys potentially could. Yzerman has tried to band aid together a winner with the likes of Chiarot, Copp, Holl, Husso, Petry, etc. and it hasn't worked out at all. I don't think any of the aforementioned players will be around if we end up being a competitive, above .500 team. Maybe Copp would be on the roster, but that's about it. Holland tried putting a band aid on the team to keep it afloat by bringing in more and more veterans on bad or subpar contracts. It didn't work then and it's not working now. Quote
lordstanley Posted November 19, 2024 Author Posted November 19, 2024 (edited) By the way, Daniel Sprong didn't work out with the Canucks (9GP 1G 2A) and is back with the Kraken, where he has played 2 games this season so far. Elsewhere: Shayne Gostisbehere has 4G 9A 13pts in 17 games this year for Carolina. David Perron as 0G 0A 0pts in 6 games this year for Ottawa. Robby Fabbri had 2G 0A 2pts in 14 games this year for Anaheim but then, shocker, got injured. Jake Walman has 1G 10A 11pts in 15 games for San Jose this year. Seems to have been benched as a healthy scratch for 2 weeks but has played the last 2 games including last night vs the Wings Olli Maata has 0G 0A 0pts in 15 games for Utah Hockey Club this year. Klim Kostin has 0G 0A 0pts in 9 games for San Jose this year. Going back to Wings' players from the season before. Filip Hronek has 1G 5A 6pts in 17 games for Vancouver this year. Dominik Kubalik is out of the NHL after 15 pts in 74 games for Ottawa last year; he signed with a Swiss team this September. Pius Suter has 6G 2A 8pts in 16 games for Vancouver this year. Oskar Sundqvist has 2G 0A 2pts in 12 games for St. Louis this year. Tyler Bertuzzi has 5G 1A 6pts in 18 games for Chicago this year. Filip Zadina is out of the NHL and playing in Switzerland, after 23 pts in 72 games for San Jose last season. Jakub Vrana has 4G 3A 7pts in 15 games for Washington this year. Jordan Oesterle has 0G 0A in 3 games for Boston this year, after playing 22 games for Calgary last season. Alex Nedljkovic has a 3.17 GAA and .886 save % in 10 games for Pittsburgh this year. So much mediocrity (or worse)!! Edited November 19, 2024 by lordstanley Quote

Wait, the same Abby that scored goals in the first 2 games of the 2009 Stanley Cup finals that we won and then got benched after Game 3 by the coach who needed to prove some kind of point over something that was probably really stupid and macho ****headness. That Abby? Quote

Some nights they've stood on their head and that's the only reason that 7-9-2 isn't more like 6-12 Pistons games have a better atmosphere right now. Never thought I'd see that. Quote
