He's the ultimate "company man". I'm a fan of KK though.

I could almost take that aspect if it weren't for the rest - the terrible voice, terrible intonation, terrible elocution. I get that he has become a fixture now, but what crazy person at the Wings first heard his demo tape and said, "Yeah, let's put this voice on the radio!"  Boggles the mind. And to do it after Bruce Martyn.

prashanth has a nice writeup in his substack on the wings' "contention window" starting two years from now.

so dont panic about this year, the wings are planning to be good in a couple years when seider/raymond hit 25.  and then compete for the next 5 years after that.

so all these moves are really just holding down the fort til then.

its not all rosey - he has a lot of criticism for them and wonders where the defense will come from given that he doesnt think much of buium, wallinder, etc - but it presents a different look on this year: transition year.

I thought this was interesting, he had a typo it should say "Only 3 teams have a lower dump-in rate at 5v5 this season than they did last season (NYI, SEA, DET). "  I'm a bit shocked the Wings have trended towards less dump and chase this season.

I can see the the logic of it. Despite its other shortcomings some of the RW Dmen can make a good  pass or contribute to the rush themselves. On the other hand you have Veleno, who probably should just dump in more often instead of trying to carry it in and getting erased as he usually does. :classic_wink:

More seriously though, I'd guess it's the combination of the popularity of fast forwards and ever bigger big Dmen which probably make dump and chase a better proposition. If you have the speed, better to dump the puck past a Seider (or Edvinsson) and try to win the race to the puck than let a big Dman just cut you off.

Damn. That will especially sting if Montgomery turns around the Blues’  9-12-1 season.

yzerman kept blashill around way too long and now history is repeating itself.

people talk about gallant, but gallant has a rep for just relying on vets and stunting rookies.  he's a mini-torts.  we dont want that.

there's the fedorov or larianov pipe dream, but i dont want to hire a guy just because he was a great red wing once.  that's got us this front office who seems to have a hard time judging talent.

i dont know enough about hockey to know if the coach will matter.

and i know this will upset some people but the best guy out there is probably joel quenville.
