OMG...I'm glad there were no stray shots! That would shake anybody up. Glad you're OK!

I never felt in danger. I’m sorry to say there was an almost lewd carnivalesque thing going on with we spectators. Gallows humor, sort of thing. People were relieved when they heard the five shots and saw the ambulance gurney being moved immediately after they were fired. I’m not being critical. I felt the same way. I was tired of the standoff. I’m not proud of it though. We human beings have a dark streak in us.

This is the play Goff threw his last pick downfield. The coaches must have told him to be patient after this bone headed pass;Screenshot_20241111_000941_X.thumb.jpg.de64d7f20f7bf2f34e06ccad43c16c23.jpg

Ironically, one of the issues with Goff with the Rams was that he checked it down too often. Now he's gone full gunslinger.

argh - sounds like suicide by cop.

It turns out that’s what it was. A man was holding a woman hostage with a knife to her throat the entire time. For something like 90 minutes, I can’t imagine how awful that was for her.  Finally, he released her then I guess he bolted from the door with the knife, committing suicide by cop, and they obliged and he died at the hospital.

but I’m glad the Lions won. It’s salvages the day.

Going back to the Texans’ situation with just under 2 minutes to go.  5 possible outcomes:

A) - successful FG, lead by 3, give Lions ball back around Lions 30 yard line (after kickoff) with around 1:50 to go

B)  miss FG, tied, give Lions ball back at the Lions 48 yard line with 1:51 to go

C) successful going for it on 4th and 4, tied, possess the ball with a 1st down at the Lions 35 yard line or closer

D) - fail going for it on 4th and 4, tied, give Lions ball back around the Lions 40 with around 1:50 to go

E) - punt, tied, give the Lions the ball back at, say, around the Lions 10-20 yard line with around 1:50 to go

I think choosing C/D might have been the highest percentage play for the Texans over choosing A/B

Why? I wonder what the stats would show are the odds of hitting a 58 yarder (factoring the Texans kicker’s strong leg) vs converting on 4th. Probably a bit under 50/50, maybe 40% for both? Missing the FG or being stopped on 4th down would be roughly equally bad. But would it be better to be successful on that FG or successful on the 4th and 4? The FG would have put the Texans ahead but the Lions would have the ball with plenty of time. Converting the 4th down would have kept the game tied, but the Texans would have a fresh set of downs closer to a reasonable FG range, with 3 downs to move it closer and/or run time off the clock and/or get the Lions to burn timeouts.

It's kinda funny... because I wasn't even really angry that we were losing. I mean I wasn't happy and it wasn't that I thought we'd come back and win... It was just: "Meh... bad games happen."

I heard this said about baseball but honestly it applies to all sports I think: It's the fans of the mediocre teams that are most invested in the wins and losses.

Fans of a bad team assume losses will happen and if they win: "Well, that's nice, but that isn't like we're all of a sudden good." Fans of a good team assume a win, but if they lose: "Well, bad games happen. We'll get back on the winning side next game." It's just the people in the middle who feel the outcome of the game is defining if their team is good or bad because it matters each game.

I'm not saying this to try to trash on those fans who are like that of middle of the road teams. Lord knows I've been that fan many, many times. No, the reason I'm saying this is that I 100% felts like a fan of a good team last night. I certainly wasn't happy that the Lions were getting their butt whopped, but I never thought: "There goes the season... our team sucks." It's amazing how far we've come in 4 years.

Looking at the game box score at ESPN? The Lions actually were on top of most of the stats. We lost the time of possession and turnovers stats but everything else? The Lions won the score sheet. After our first half woes, kinda surprising. Lions had more total yards, passing yards, rushing yards and first downs. I guess, as fans, we can never complain or apologize for a road victory.

TP needs to do us all a favor and take a Xanax or something before a game.

Or like a few other fans in the recent past, who on a message board and announce that they'll NEVER watch the Lions, ever again. It was said...by a very recent poster in this thread. A true fan follows a team thru thick and thin.

It’s really more of him doing a favor for himself.

He obviously doesn’t realize how foolish and embarrassing he comes off with the never ending negativity in the middle of the greatest Lions season in his lifetime.     It’s a very bad look.
