I will say…. I really don’t want to play the Packers in January.

If we do, we will, and I know Campbell will be ready for it. But I would rather take on the Eagles or Vikings than these Packers a third time.

It feels likely though that we would have an NFC North matchup in the Divisional Round, unless the 7-seed upsets the Eagles.

Washington is only one game back of the Packers. They also have a better conference record than the Packers. It's not out of the question that Washington jumps Green Bay for the 6th seed.

Lions-Packers feels like an NFC Championship Game. I would take on Washington before Green Bay again.

Playing the Packers and then Eagles would be a tough route. No one said it was going to be easy though.

The Packers may have downgraded when they went from Rodgers to LaFleur.

I believe the Lions have won 7 of last 8 against the Packers. Yes, they are a tough team to play but every team is tough in January. 

Listening to Packers fans call in to Adam Schein, and they are all talking about how they should have won but the Packers made mistakes. Well, Goff threw and INT deep in his own territory. Campbell went for it on 4th down deep in our own territory and the team didn’t convert. The fact is that the Packers were in the game due to Lions mistakes.

going for it on 4th down at the 30 was the right call - Goff audibled to the wrong play

Campbell has instilled a mindset that the Lions are always the aggressor - that is a huge benefit to the team, and often puts their opponent in an uncomfortable position of trying to be what they are not

Whoever compared this regular season to the 84 Tigers is spot on - we get to see another magical regular season run!

I offended my brother during the game by mentioning toward the end that we were playing like the SOLs on defense.

He retorted that the SOLs are dead, and of course he's right. They are dead.

But I didn't say these were the SOLs. I said we were playing like the SOLs, by which I meant, a lot of second- and third-stringers—guys who would have been every game starters on the SOLs—on the field doing the best they could against a good team at better strength than they. Sure, those backup guys are being coached up by a better crew than the SOLs ever had. But they still were leaving openings all over the field for the Packers' offense and, as backups, they didn't quite have the speed or field vision to make up for it—just like the SOLs did.

However, these are decidedly not the SOLs, because even though the defense was decimated and scrambling, the top-flight Goffense was there to pick them up, in a way the SOL offense could have not have.

And that, to me, is exactly why the actual SOLs are dead.

I think this is a pretty normal reaction though. You view the game through your fan eyes. I mean we've all done it many times: "Goff/Montgomery/Gibbs/whomever didn't have at great game..." Our first instinct is to say our team didn't do this or that rather than giving credit to the opposing team for preventing it from happening.

Yeah, they're not wrong. If the Packers played a perfect game, they win the game. The fumble certainly comes to mind. But of course, it's not like the Lions played perfect. They gave up 14 points in less than 4 minutes in one stretch.

The Lions are the clearly better team, and will win more often than not when these two teams play.

Campbell has said that they tend to give out more game balls after watching film. I would expect O'Connor to get one in the film room.

General note, the Bills GDT will be posted on Sunday after they play the Rams.

Tim Patrick, a big (6-5) WR, with few drops, a vet who is happy to play (after injuries) and play for a winner, who does not complain about catches or TDs, and who is a great blocker in the run game, is just a great addition/compliment to St Brown and Williams, and IMO an improvement over Reynolds. Would not be surprised to see him re-up for 2 years.

Holmes is just a fantastic GM.

Reynolds was all those things, but Patrick has been a great addition. It's ironic since Denver signed Reynolds and let Patrick walk and they eventually released Reynolds after 5 games.

Has Detroit become the place that makes players "look better" than they are? Are we the place now that will be letting good-to-great players go who will get big contacts other places but won't live up to them?

Reynolds left the Rams the same time Goff did and signed with the Titans and struggled. They cut him and the Lions picked him up and he had a good run. Reynolds was good with the Rams and Lions. There is just something he has with Goff. He has struggled without Goff.
