Shinzaki Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Yzerman over paid for competence with guys like Copp and Compher. Holl, Gustafsson, Petry were bad signings. Treading water at .500 gor another couple of years does not sound good Quote
buddha Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 this year is a write off, next year is the key. that's when you'll have significant cap space, that's when seider and raymond enter their prime and you have the ability to fill key depth roles with up and coming players on ELCs: edvinsson, danielson, kasper, cossa, wallinder/johannson/tuomisto, mazur. after this year you have two more years of copp and chairot and the buy outs dont look so terrible. you have a market with heiskennen and marner. you're likely to have a nice, high pick after this year. let's see what they can get at the deadline. so next year is the beginning. kenny always said it took 10 years to rebuild. well....the rebuild started in 2019 when yzerman got hired. were halfway there. 😞 but to all of your points, this year's offseason should make none of us comfortable with who is doing our pro scouting. buddha Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 unless they got a pick for him, but i dont know how the wings could fit him unless they gave up salary in return. maybe we were saved by our own poor cap managament of giving big contracts to mediocre to bad players? Quote
lordstanley Posted December 8, 2024 Author Posted December 8, 2024 Wings trailing Avs 1-0 after 2. I agree with Buddha that this season is a write-off. With Washington and New Jersey off to great starts, the Wings are already 9 points out of 6th place. 7th and 8th are not as close as it appears, since NYR and Tampa have games in hand and, more importantly, superior rosters. Maybe the Wings can get a surprise top 5 pick this season, and if they pick that high that player could be an NHLer by the 2026-2027 season. Quote

I'm feeling like we are on a death watch for Lalonde at this point. Wings are a team in a rut. i think so too. but its more a roster issue, imo. every move they made this offseason has backfired. every addition to the team has been bad (tarasenko, motte, gustaffson) and every player they moved on from has been good (ghost, walman). again, whatever former red wing is in charge of nhl scouting deserves to be fired. i understand the draft. i even understand that the average time for a second round pick to make the nhl is 4 to 5 years, so were right on the timeline for our bevy of so-called failed second rounders to make it soon. but to let walman and ghost and even perron go to sign this group has been the difference between last year almost making the playoffs and this year being a surefire lottery team. 1 Quote

And the 2019-2022 drafts didn’t yield superstars at the top. The only person from near the top of those four drafts that could reach the level or Hedman or Stamkos is Jack Hughes picked #1 in 2019. #2 picks those 4 years were Kakko, Byfield, Beniers and Nemec. Seider-Raymond-Edvinsson-Kaspar is a better collection than that. Heck it might be better collection than #1 picks Jack Hughes-Lafreniere-Power-Slafkosky. So I can’t fault Yzerman for his 1st rounders, that’s one thing he seems to have gotten right. 1 Quote

slothfacekilla Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Hey they did it! Berggren lets his man walk in right by him with little resistance to put in a rebound for a goal against for Cossa. Welcome to the team! Quote
lordstanley Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 Since I typed this, I see Cossa has been brought to start the 2nd. Has played 5:19, seen 7 shots, allowed 1 goal. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Feel like Cossa could have had the second goal scored on him but it was still more so the defense in front of him looking god awful Quote
slothfacekilla Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Think it's time to turn this off I don't need to see more of the wings pk Quote

lordstanley Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 Two Copp goals in one game?! Wings still trail though, 5-4 with 6 minutes to go in regulation. Quote
