that didnt look like the same team.  maybe its just because they were playing buffalo?  but they were moving the puck up the ice, getting it out of the zone, firing shots, cycling in the other team's zone.  where has this been all year?  they looked like a different team on offense.

yeah, must be buffalo.

otoh, they looked like the same team on defense.  is there a team in the league that has worse forwards on defense?  how many times do we need to see motte, berggren, and then holl get beat on the backside for rebound goals?  granted, husso was atrocious and would probably be in grand rapids if lyons and talbot werent injured but COME ON.

you cant win games when your goalies play like that.

but hey, at least they finally won a game.

Yeah - I don't think the wings were actually playing that much faster, they just had more time because the Sabres gave them more room than they usually get from other teams.

The defensive breakdowns remain nuts. I don't remember which Sabre goal, Sabre player standing in front of the net, two Wing players were down low,  but neither bothered to play the man in front of the net, he was just chilling unmolested and blocking the goalie's view for maybe 10 seconds with 10 feet of space to either side before the goal went in. WTF?

since when did michael rasmussen stop hitting and checking?

IDK, Lalonde doesn't seem to have the key to him, or maybe he  isn't right physically - I've thought more than once this season that his skating looked labored. And if his conditioning is bad, that's even worse.

Cossa was a little jumpy..I'm chalking it up to 1st game jitters.   Did well enough in the shootout..dude is going to be tough to beat on those. He really fills that cage

I thought he looked nervous too, but he seemed to get more comfortable and was playing the puck outside of the crease as the game went on, etc.

cossa was all over the place.  same problem that plagued him earlier in his career: poor positioning and getting dragged out of place at the drop of a hat.

that said, youre probably right that nerves played a role.  and he did he really well in the shootout.

Nashville is imploding...they're on the hook to Josi for 9 mil a year through 27/28.

I would not be opposed to shipping them Copp and Holl or even Chiarot with a pick (not a first) to get them more cap more quickly for Joshi.

They would prbably want more...but...no

So Nashville signing Stamkos for 4 years @$8.0mm looks worse than it did this summer. Worries me a bit that the two names linked to the Wings in recent months as Yzerman possibly being interested were Stamkos and Trouba. Both would have been great gets ... on the day he took over the Wings in 2019. Both are still big names but both have faded since then. They would have been Ken Holland-like signings.
