buddha Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 i wouldnt either. but that's probably the biggest impact player you can get for ivey. better off paying ivey and seeing if he develops into a less selfish lavine. Quote

Is the choice only between signing Ivey long term versus bringing in Lavine? As of right now that's 2.5 years of a bad defender who's injury prone but is a perfect offensive fit next to Cade versus 6.5 years of a bad defender who's best role is probably 6th man but the team will treat him like a 2nd option? In that case, I'm leaning towards Lavine, as painful as it is for me to say. Lavine does one thing legitimately well, and that's score. Everyone loves what Beasley is doing this year, right? Well Lavine is shooting 43% from three compared to Beasley's 40%. He's money from outside and has an eFG% of 61 which is significantly better than Ivey's 50%. Cade will find him for threes all day and when Cade is getting tripled or sits down, Lavine will do what we were all hoping Ivey would do - take over the offensive load. He won't play defense, but let's be honest, trying hard doesn't make Ivey a good defender either. His health is the only reason I'd even have to think about this for more than a few minutes. It gives me pause, but you take the better player in the deal and run every time and that's clearly Lavine. We'd have to match 33M of that contract since we only have 10M open. THJ's and Ivey is only 24M. Maybe you could toss Reed in there. Now, if you're giving me the 3rd option of moving Ivey in a different deal, then I'm probably taking that instead - and no, not Ingram. I'd rather have Lavine than pay Ingram 50M/yr. Edited December 14, 2024 by Betrayer Quote
buddha Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 one of the sticking points on a potential lavine-ivey deal is that the bulls have no picks to trade. im not giving up ivey for lavine. lavine is a cancer. a selfish player who plays zero defense and thinks he's michael jordan. much of his game is based on his otherwordly athleticism and that is going to decrease as he gets older. ivey could be lavine-lite in a couple years. the bulls would have to give me at a #1 pick with that deal and they dont have one to give. buddha Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 there's a reason why lavine has been available for two years and no one has moved for him yet (not even the lakers!): that contract, health, and the league has gotten wiser to all counting stat players on bad teams (see drummond, andre). otoh, lavine can score in bunches and that's a skill teams still need despite the other baggage. Deleterious Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 I need a first round pick to take Lavine for salary filler. I need a second one if they want Ivey too. Quote

I agree with a lot of what you said and I don't particularly like Lavine (although I'd still do the deal). However, I do need to call this comment out. Lavine's athleticism absolutely helps his scoring, but the dude is shooting 43% from three on 7.5 attempts per game. That's elite shooting regardless of his dunking ability. Of course, it's required that anytime you say something good about Lavine, you have to follow it with "when he plays." Quote
