Mr.TaterSalad Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 What a terrible stretch run we've had. Quote

I mean this is what the project depth chart was supposed to be going into the season (as best I can piece together... let me know if I got something wrong!): And this is just the injury status right now. Reader, Levi, Martin, and Pachal have all missed games with injury issues, as has Arnold. Plus there are people who've been added to this chart who are also hurt now as well. There simply can't be a team in the NFL more impacted by injuries than us can their be? This is ridiculous to look at. Quote
holygoat Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 In my mind, the Lions have gone from favorites to win the NFC to underdogs. I think they can do it, but that it's not likely now. 1 Quote

TP_Fan Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 We aren’t allowed to have nice things. We should have known this. At this point we have to be underdogs to win the division. A road game is likely. Could be a 14-3 one and done type of situation. Too many injuries. Quote
sagnam Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Is this what the new SOL looks like? Great players/teams but injuries derail the possibilities? Quote
gehringer_2 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 That's not a Lions thing though. Injuries are a big factor in the final success level of every NFL team and there is not a whole lot anyone can do about it. No matter how good your team and FO are, you still need some luck on the health front to get through an NFL season in any kind of shape compared to where you started it. I think Holmes recognizes this better than any previous Lion's management and he has put together more depth than any Lion's regime in my memory, but no matter what you do you can't guarantee it will be enough. Nate7474 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 At this point you have to wonder if our style of defense is causing these injuries and needs to change or if we need to look at our strength and conditioning teams to make changes for next year. most of the injuries look random right now but something has got to be improved on here. MichiganCardinal Posted December 16, 2024 Author Posted December 16, 2024 No one said it was going to be easy. Last year, we went into Dallas in week 17 and played a game on national television that we should have won. The defense let us down at points, we got robbed at the end. We were all angry, upset, disappointed, even hanging our heads. It would have been easy for the team to go all woe is me and fold it in for the season. They took that adversity and ate it for lunch. They'll do the same here. Lions will win the next three and get the first-round bye. I still think they will reach New Orleans too. 1 Quote
Motown Bombers Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Four players lost for the season in one game, and three of them were really good. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I think they could weather the Montgomery injury. They have Gibbs, and I would like to see Vaki get involved in his absence. You also hate to think about it, but this could be the beginning of the end for Montgomery. A lot of times when RBs start getting serious knee injuries in their late 20s, it's usually downhill from there. Quote

So I was at a Christmas function yesterday and only checking the score in the 1st half and seeing it be 14-0, 21-7, and so on. I'm finally driving home late in the 1st half and listening to the game on Sirius and a Lions player goes down around the 2 minute warning when the Bills are about to attempt the FG attempt. Dan Miller leaves me hanging as he takes it to a commercial saying I don't know which Lions player it is but it looks bad and they're already bringing out the cart. I'm in suspense for a minute and when back from the commercial Miller announces it is Dorsey. He and Lomas are going about how sad this is for Dorsey. I agree, but in my head I'm thinking "whew, thank God it's not Branch or McNeil or Reader or Davis!!". At this point I didn't even know Davis had left the game already. And this was before McNeil went down. Quote

Yeah - it's just random crap - you get clusters sometimes. I remember one year not too long ago UM was supposed to have a great D and then they suffered something like 5 injuries all at LB and that was that - every TE in the league had a field day. Motown Bombers Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 What's funny is Buffalo has given up 86 points over two games, and they have been anointed Super Bowl favorites, and the Lions season is over because of defensive injuries. Quote
RaceDog Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Lions are now literally limping into the playoffs. The way it’s going they may not even have appendages to limp on soon. Quote

I won't say their season is over, but I also don't anticipate a deep run in the playoffs. There are just too many injuries to over come. I still think we'll beat Chicago and SanFran... unsure on the Vikings. But I don't feel good about going up against playoff caliber teams with duct tape defense. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Seems like only Rappaport is reporting an MCL tear for Montgomery. Others are saying sprain. Quote

Well, that could very well be the nail in the coffin for Superbowl hopes. When you have no defense, you need a balanced offense to control the ball and keep the defense off the field and now their bell cow RB is gone. I don't know what else to say, the SOL Gods have struck down on us again with fury. Not that SOL this time around is the Lions fault, just the fact that this is happening during their best season of the Superbowl makes you believe that the Lions just can't have nice things. Quote

They have Gibbs, a good healthy OL, and some quality backup. This is one injury they could afford to weather. Quote
lordstanley Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Vikings fans have been beaten down almost as much as the Lions the past 50 years. I'm sure they're worrying today that it would be just like the Vikings to look this gift horse in the mouth by losing to the Bears tonight! Quote
