Mr.TaterSalad Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 I like it! The guy was one of the most careful (in a smart way), cerebral and thoughtful players on the ice to ever play the game. Hopefully that thoughtful nature translate over well to the front office. He seem like the type of guy that would excel in a player development or scouting type role. 1 Quote
slothfacekilla Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Hopefully this is a creative way around the salary cap and we can get him on the ice (only half kidding) Quote
lordstanley Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Term paper at Red Wings U: Swedes have been more important to the success of the Red Wings since 1990 than Russians have. Discuss Quote
oblong Posted January 11, 2022 Author Posted January 11, 2022 I didn’t see anything from the press conference. Is this a real job or just an Al Kaine/Willie Horton thing? Is he moving back to Detroit? In other words is he Vice President of hockey ops or a Vice President of hockey ops? There’s a difference. Quote

I read somewhere he is staying in Sweden but will be involved in helping develop the defense (by watching European prospects in person and US games on TV I guess?) and be a sounding board for Yzerman on moves, etc. Steve was VP of Hockey OPs under Holland (I am pretty sure) so this is probably a way for him to get into the management side of it slowly I would think. Seems like a lot like what Kronwall does over in Europe with the defense prospects but not as direct on ice and more... overall focused I would imagine. Quote
