I’m sure it has to do with keeping options open for the cup, but it’s weird to see them on a New York and then to Boston road trip with 3 off days in between game days.

Yeah, it's related to the greatest tournament in the history of sports.

I don't think any of tonight's games were on the schedule at the start of the season. They were added as teams were eliminated from the tournament.

Cade will probably get another triple double. The rest of this game is unwatchable.

because cade is the only player on this team worth paying.  the rest are bit players.

what this team needs is another #1 pick in a generational draft.  without it, they will be what you see today for the forseeable future.

ivey is a nice player, but not a max player.  duren hasnt developed beyond andre 2.0.  holland and ausar are role players at best.

they must, must, MUST tank to get a top player in this draft or else this is what they will be forever: a max 6 seed at best with cade ending his piston career getting traded for second rounders when he's 32 so he can go "chase a ring."

Tanking has done nothing for the Pistons in the past outside of getting extremely lucky with Cade. Three straight #5 picks with them slotting in at 3, 1 and 2 in the drafting order respectively. Ivey, Ausar and Holland. Not one star in that group although Ivey has the potential to be a fringe All Star level player.

Tanking and being as terrible as possible is terrible for development and all it gives you is slightly better odds at a very longshot lottery win. Boston and OKC built their teams through a few high draft picks yes but mostly smart asset management and smart drafting. Management needs to put in the work, not put all the eggs into the winning a draft lottery basket.

Not a good shooter.  Solid/OK on defense.  Eh, depends on price I guess.

Below average shooter, below average defender, too many turnovers. He'd fit right in, but no thanks.

boston without jalen brown and jason tatum are nothing.  both were top 5 picks.

you have to get lucky and find one of those guys.  the pistons have one in cade.  they need another and that other will most likely only come via a top 5 pick.

theyve been unlucky in the lottery.  unless they get lucky theyre likely screwed.  picking 10th definitely decreases their chances exponentially.

This is extremely odd.  His contract doesn't become guaranteed until January 10th.  He was a pretty nice trade chip until then for teams that wanted to dump salary.  Not much of a reason to cut him like this.

Keith Smith just Tweeted that there is a $20M Luxury Tax disbursement to be paid to teams not paying the luxury tax.  If Detroit stays below the salary minimum for more than 1 day, they will not be eligible to receive that payment.

TLDR; Something is happening in the next 24 hours.  Could be a trade.  Could be as simple as signing a free agent.  But they will fill that salary void so they can get that payment.
