Hollinger says Reed might come back.  I didn't think you could sign a player you cut until next season.  But I guess you can.

Sounds like the whole thing was just to free up a little extra cap space going into trade season. I'll judge this move when I see what they do with it.

So about the Hollinger tidbit.  None of the cap gurus on Twitter have backed his claim.  That makes me question how accurate he is about the Reed situation.

Looks like he was right.

This answers one question.  Who is the dumbest man on earth?  Paul Reed.  Every team in the league can give him a vet min contract and this fool signs back here?

If I'm a potential trade partner, I value his unguaranteed contract way more than $4M in cap space.  Especially since Detroit is the only team in the league currently with cap space.  It has diminishing returns.

His deal wasn't guaranteed until Jan 10th.  Until then, the Pistons could have offered the $10.5 plus the $7.7M his contract was worth.  Way more than $14M.

The only advantage I see here is it lets them use it past the Jan 10th deadline.
