I think it's because he doesn't throw the prettiest spiral. Peyton Manning didn't either. Goff launched that ball at around the 12 yard line and Williams caught it at the other 35, so that is 53 air yards.

and it's obvious, based on Bates' kickoffs that the wind is in that  direction, but still 53 is 53

It looked weird. The Bears OL was waiting for someone to block. I think the Lions dropped in coverage.

Lions still don’t have much of a pass rush outside of blitzing, and even those struggle to get home.  It’s gonna be a thing until next year.  Just have to try a hold the line as much as possible.

Williams has a remarkable streak of not throwing INTs.  Really surprising considering how bad he has been.

First chance in the red zone and it’s an easy TD. Fortunate for the turnovers, bears have had zero problem moving the football and Williams is carving up the lions defense.

14-play drive to get their first points of the game isn’t carving up, yet. Need a response drive here though to give the defense a rest.
