NYLion Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Just now, Deleterious said: A team like OKC would give you multiple 1st round picks for Luka even if it was just a 1 1/2 year rental. Wait until the draft lottery is figured out and approach the top teams then. A trade to Detroit for Ivey, Holland, cap filler and multiple picks was better than the Laker move. So odd. And they were calling it a "win now" move after trading Luka freaking Doncic. I just don't know what's going on here. Quote

Deleterious Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 The oddest part of all of this. Nico Harrison has been an excellent GM the past two seasons. Drafting Lively was perfect, trading for Gafford trigged that 17 game win streak or whatever it was. Finally sticking a team with Hardaway. Bringing in Grimes, Thompson, and Marshall this summer was fantastic. This move doesn't track with anything else he has done. He is considered a good GM overall. Quote

I think I would feel better if they had received more in return. Like you pointed out, there are viable reasons to move him. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Possibly the worst trade in sports history. How is that all you get for Luka? Quote
Deleterious Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 Poor bastard will have to survive on 5/$296M. Hope he doesn't take his vape pen to Russia. Quote
Hongbit Posted February 2 Posted February 2 If AD was 4 years younger then I would’ve got this trade. I still wouldn’t have done it but it would be explainable. How bad is this going to look when AD is 36 and completely broken and Luca is in his prime years. Maybe Nico hates his boss and everything she stands for but that’s a conversation for the political forum. Quote

Deleterious Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 Sam Vecenie brought up a point on his podcast last night. Not only did Dallas not shop Luka around the league and get the best deal, they didn't even get the best offer from LA. He said how do you send Luka to LA and not get Austin Reaves? The Lakers have one more 1st round pick they can trade. How did Dallas not get that? Quote

Were they afraid that word would leak quickly that Doncic wasn't going to resign and that might lower his trade value? Even then, they've still got to play the field against each other to get the best deal. Quote
Hart Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Given that everyone seems to hate this trade for the Mavs, they will probably be considered the winner of the trade 5 years from now. Quote

Ridiculous and of course it's the Lakers reaping the benefits as they have for like 6 decades always getting these generational talents landing in their lap. Yep, Kobe for an aging Divac, Gasol for Kwame Brown and some picks, AD for Lonzo and Ingram and now this. And this is all in just the past 30 years, I'm sure there were countless examples before and others I'm forgetting about. Not to mention they almost got a prime Chris Paul for relative peanuts if not for the owners actually stepping in and forcing Stern to veto it, if I'm remembering the details correctly.
