NYLion Posted January 22 Posted January 22 (edited) I wonder if one of those 1sts Phoenix traded for is destined for a team like the Pistons to take on a salary to pave way for a Butler trade. I would say Monte Morris to give the Pistons an extra ballhandler but offloading his salary does nothing for them. Can't be Beal for many reasons so, I don't know. Edited January 22 by NYLion Quote

I would guess that is exactly why they made that trade. I think any Butler trade involving Detroit will need a 4th team. Butler and Beal are close enough to trade by themselves. But Miami doesn't want Beal, so you need the third team. Problem is, Beal has a no trade clause and he isn't waiving it to come to Detroit. Bring in the 4th team, say Milwaukee. Phoenix can't take the Bucks players because they are taking Butler. Miami doesn't want a bunch of extra salary because they are looking for the quick rebuild around Herro and Bam. You have to find somewhere for the Bucks salary to land. Detroit does it for a 1st rounder. Or some other team. 1 Quote

I hope Langdon is more in asset accumulation mode than win now mode because the team is still too incomplete and the win now window doesn't really open up until next year plus they'll likely have control of all their picks as well so if they add a 1st now, they'll have some real assets to work with to use for a bigger trade when they're in the real win now window. Deleterious Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 Ironically. They could have landed an extra 1st round pick this year if they had kept Grimes. Quote
Deleterious Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 No clue why Miami would take Middleton. But that would be ideal for Detroit or any fourth team involved. It would mean a lot less salary they would have to take on. Quote
Deleterious Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 Trade deadline is two weeks from today at 3pm Quote
buddha Posted January 23 Posted January 23 if youre of the mind the pistons need another ball handler, would you trade a couple second rounders for lonzo ball? $20mish expiring deal. Quote
1984Echoes Posted January 24 Posted January 24 If we had the picks I would target Cam Johnson & DeAngelo Russell. I think that would start with THJ, Stew, and Ron Holland... plus picks... and ??? but I'm just guessing... Quote

Costs little with no commitment so I don't mind it. Not crazy about taking time from Sasser though. I want to use these last 30 games + the playoffs to get a better read on him and decide if we need to move on or not. Quote

No way am I tossing in picks as well. 1 Quote

Deleterious Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 The Athletic reported Beal would not waive his no trade clause for Chicago. Also saw a report that Detroit is over is the teams inquiring about Ball in Chicago. Quote
buddha Posted January 28 Posted January 28 i worry about lonzo's shot, but he handle the ball, is a willing passer, and plays defense. and he's a free agent after this year. lavine would be the play if they were "going for it" this year, but lonzo would be a nice play that would allow them to build on ivey next year (which lavine would not) and would help them with a lot of their deficiencies this year (secondary ball handler for cade, willing passer) and build on their young players' strengths and potential identity (defense). i like lonzo to the pistons for some second round fodder. buddha Posted January 28 Posted January 28 lonzo with 16 tonight so far. 4/7 from 3 as chicago is about to close out denver. Quote
Deleterious Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Gives Detroit Bird rights on Ball too. I imagine he will sign a 1 year prove it deal sort of like Beasley this year. Gives them 25 games to kick the tires on him too, see if he is worth bringing back. It makes a lot of sense. Quote

Betrayer Posted Tuesday at 10:17 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:17 PM Some of the Detroit sports heads have been mentioning Coby White, but much like Lavine I'm not sure how you bring him unless you're moving Ivey. Lonzo makes way more sense since he can play next to either Cade or Ivey, defend, handle the ball, and space the floor. Then again, Langdon seemed to value availability in his offseason moves and that's one ability that Lonzo has yet to prove. Quote
buddha Posted Wednesday at 02:40 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:40 AM coby white has been hurt a lot lately. he's actually been less available than lonzo of late. 1 Quote
Deleterious Posted Wednesday at 02:39 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 02:39 PM Hollinger last night: Quote If you’re looking for ways for De’Aaron Fox to end up in San Antonio, keep an eye on Detroit. The Pistons are set up both roster-wise and cap-wise to take on a likely key element in any Fox deal, the $18 million contract of Harrison Barnes. Remember, because Sacramento traded Barnes to the Spurs this past offseason, he cannot be reacquiring by the Kings directly in a trade with the Spurs until after the season. However, that restriction goes away if Barnes goes to a third team … such as the Pistons. Detroit is the league’s only team with practical cap space, operating $14 million below the cap, but have had disappointing results at the 4 from free-agent acquisition Tobias Harris. Barnes makes $18 million this season and $19 million in 2025-26, but the Pistons can fit him by sending out at least $4 million in fungible salary to the Kings or Spurs in a three-way trade. By sending a reserve such as Simone Fontecchio to San Antonio ($7.7 million this year, $8.3 million in 2025-26), Detroit could take the Barnes contact into its cap room. Quote
