So Goff was 26/34 for 303 yards and 3 TDs and 0 INTs. Purdy was 27/35 for 377 and 3 TDs and 2 INTs. Purdy's QBR was 85.5 and Goff's was 73.3. So Purdy has two more INTs, but 74 more passing yards, and that equals a 12 point advantage in QBR?

Something isn't right there. Yeah, ESPN shows a 73.3 rating. That can't be right.

QBR and PFF don't seem to like Goff. PFF coming into this game had Goff as the 18th ranked QB. Purdy was 13th despite having half the TD passes and the same number of INTs.

And those were both bad ints. Not like good throws off his receiver’s hands. One was an out of control throw, one was  bad field vision to not see Kirby sitting on the route, so totally on Purdy in both cases.

I remember seeing a stat last night that showed Goff had more games this season with a 75% completion rate than anyone in history right behind Tom Brady. The quarterback rating doesn't make much sense, is it a stat based on performance?

If you adjust for defense, that even favors Goff. The 49ers pass defense is actually pretty good. It's their one strength. They allow among the fewest passing yards in the league and Goff carved them up.

QB rating rates Goff very well. Goff's 113.6 QB rating is second in the NFL behind only Lamar Jackson. Goff is going to shatter the Lions single season QB rating. QBR is a stat developed by ESPN. I've noticed it seems to heavily favor mobile QBs.

It's an outdated stat based on an imperfect algorithm that considers completion percentage, yards per attempt, TDs per attempt, and interceptions.

So it inherently favors gunslinger offenses who air it out downfield consistently, and disfavors dink and dunk offenses, who will pick you apart. The Lions offense is more the latter. It also disadvantages QBs with good run offenses. If you're consistently driving down the field and punching it in on the ground from the 1, your QBR will be worse.

But Goff had a 73 rating last night? It should be higher, IMO. But whatever, I'm just happy with the W.

His QB rating was 132.4 for the game. Purdy was 116. Goff's QBR, the developed by ESPN, was 73 and Purdy's was 85.

TD's per attempt? What a stupid stat. If anything, you're just giving the ball back to the other team more often.

Yet he's not even in the talks of MVP. There's about 5 qb's that are having epic seasons. Goff is another one.

That's more a testament to the ridiculously great seasons Allen, Jackson and Barkley are having than Goff being overlooked. Add in the underrated Baker Mayfield to the top 5 with Darnold getting an HM and this is one of the strongest MVP races we've seen in a long time.

Iffy gave them something which was nice, so would love to see some AA at least part time on Sunday.

not to be negative but Martin was inactive again, sitting behind practice squad guys and street free agents. yikes!

The one game Martin played; he did not look good. This coaching staff doesn't give up on players, and we've seen players make big leaps in year three like Barnes and Melifonwu.

I think Anzalone gets activated, but not sure he plays. Might as well activate him now instead of using a playoff activation on him.

I had to cut it off at 12 wins... it just got too crowded at that bottom. In case you're curious:
11 - Tommy Hudspeth
10 - Harry Gilmer & Rod Marinelli
6 - Gus Henderson & Don McCafferty
5 - Marty Mornhinweg
4 - Bill Edwards & Gary Moeller
1 - **** Jauron & Darrell Bevell
0 - John Karcis (coached 8 games, no wins.) & Robert Price

Quick Edit to add: This is only regular season wins.

Run and Shoot. The Big Buck is still the winningest coach in Lions history. I'm sure Campbell will pass Rasputin in the win column, but it goes to show you how pathetic this organization has been that Fontes managed to have the most wins.

Ok, it MAY not be as bad as the Detroit Times' re-tweet. I saw they sourced it from Ian Rapoport, but there was nothing on Ian's X feed about it. So I see that it comes from a radio interview he did this morning. Seems to me he just assumes it, rather than getting a news alert from Campbell about it.

https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/aidan-hutchinson-making-strides-pool-workout

“You saw David Montgomery in those highlights making a bunch of plays, really has been one of the best backs in the NFL through the course of the year. Of course, not gonna play in this game," said Rapoport. "Still rehabbing that knee injury, but not going to play in this game. (He’s) one of a slew of Lions players who played in that (Week 7) game and are not going to play in this one. Aidan Hutchinson is not gonna play in both games, so he is not on the list. Alex Anzalone, the play-making linebacker with a broken forearm, he played in that (Week 7) game, not gonna play in this one. Malcolm Rodriguez, "Rodrigo", the tackling machine of a linebacker. He has a torn ACL, he is out. Carlton Davis with a fractured jaw, another one who is out for this game, potentially has a chance to come back for the playoffs. And then Alim McNeill, their star defensive lineman, he is out with a torn ACL. So, he is for sure out for the season. That’s the Lions, and it’s a lot of them. A lot of them who played in this game and are not gonna play in the game on Sunday night.”
