I have no idea what the Pistons can do now. Ivey was one of two players that couldn't afford to lose and with such a huge talent deficiency as is I don't see how this doesn't sink their season. I think the only way is if somehow the additional time for Ausar and Holland propels one of them to a whole different level. I don’t think either shoots the ball well enough at this stage for that to actually happen. Quote

Deleterious Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Probably best case scenario after seeing him screaming in pain last night. Glass half full view. It probably makes the play-in unrealistic this year. They will lose their pick this season if they finish 14-30. So they will probably keep it allowing them to use it or trade it. They still need to add talent so this isn't terrible news. Also, maybe this worries Ivey and he takes a more team friendly extension this summer. Sacrificing dollars for security. Quote
Betrayer Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Broken bone is definitely the best case. Watching it live I thought his knee got blown out by that reckless dive. 3-6 months, which is better than the full year you usually see with ligament tears. Hopefully there was no damage to the surrounding structures. As for the team going forward, you're forced into a starting lineup change. When Ivey missed time previously JB started Beasley. Last night he closed with Ausar though. Maybe this opens up the door for more starting lineup changes to balance things out a bit. Start Beasley in place of Ivey and Ausar in place of THJ. You move THJ's spacing to the second unit since you're calling up Beasley to balance out the (theoretical) shooters and you can also have Holland backing up Ausar so you don't have two non-shooting wings on the bench sharing time on the court. As far as Ivey's contract, I think you basically punt that until next season now. Omari was saying the same thing on his podcast this morning. They'll want to make sure he makes a full recovery and all that. Ivey isn't a max guy, so they'll probably just deal with his contract in his final year instead of extending early this offseason. Deleterious Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Something like 4/$140M would be a steal on Ivey I think. Unless you don't see him improving next year. But he has improved all 3 seasons, no reason to believe that will stop now. He is going to be a guy that scores 20+ ppg shoots 40% from three and can get to the rim with ease. That gets him the max after next season no problem. Of course, if I'm Ivey I never sign for anything less than the max. Security be damned. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 (edited) Ivey had internal fixation surgery today. No indication of any damage beyond the fracture. With the screws or plates or whatever they installed, plus an intact Tibia (unlike Hutch who broke both), he should be able to at least get back on his feet a little sooner while it heals. https://www.freep.com/sports/pistons/ Edited January 2 by gehringer_2 1 Quote

The silence was deafening. I saw him taken off in the stretcher and I was done watching the game. Oh, man, what a tough deal. He and the team had the miserable season last year. Clearly he and they have turned things around. And then this. Fortunately it’s a bone break that should heal. Hopefully he heals up completely and that quickness doesn’t suffer. Quote
