Week Eighteen: Minnesota Vikings (14-2) @ Detroit Lions (14-2)

I remember hearing that zero on the clock isn't technically zero but more like .99, that's why they give it an extra second. I think the NBA Shot clock used to be like that until they ended up including decimals with it.

Regarding the play clock: I do NOT want a horn a buzzer because I'm sure there will be LOTS of times where this doesn't get turned off in time and the horn or buzzer goes off during a play. That could be disruptive. Lights would be better, but still there's a level of needing to react to the lights and then verifying if the ball has been snapped or not.

Honestly I think there's a much simpler solution: Just add this task to a new person in the replay booth. It would not be hard at all to have someone watch a screen that has the clock and live video of the play. Give them a button that buzzes an official OTHER than the head ref (so there's no confusion on what the buzzer means... is it a replay thing? Is it a delay of game thing?) and that ref blows the play dead as soon as the buzzer goes off.

I guess it depends on how the clock works, but this would be simple to fix as well and would be much better than an official subjectively counting out that last second in his/her head.

Surely there's one on-field official who has enough peripheral vision to see the line of scrimmage with one eye and the play clock out of the corner of his other eye at the same time. Or for better visibility post a portable synced clock beside the down sign and yardage chains.

I already admitted I was dead wrong about his extension, does he have to rub it in??

(Even if he doesn't have to, I hope he continues to).

I've become a believer in culture and intangibles after seeing this new regime take over. Seeing the change from Patricia to Campbell and seeing the things that Anzalone does for the defense other than just running and tackling has made me a believer. Buffalo and San Francisco abused the linebackers. Chicago is poorly coached, so they didn't, but the linebackers were constantly out of position and biting hard on play action. You didn't see that against Minnesota. Anzalone QBs that defense, and it makes more of a difference than I thought.

I remember watching an NBA playoff game a couple of years ago in Atlanta vs. Milwaukee. Giannis would take a long time on his free throws, and the fans would start a countdown. I would love to see the Lions fans do a similar countdown.

No clocks work this way. .99 sec is the first hundredth of a second after it hits 1.00. Zero means all time has expired.

I like the light-up goal posts idea.
