Oh duh it is Bob Kaser the Griffins PBP guy, Ken is sick apparently.  He sounded familiar-ish but I haven't watched the Griffs in a while.

I'm surprised they didn't use Ken Kal for TV. Put Kaser on the radio.

Man, this is what happens living on the West Coast. There's stuff  I need to do before dinner and when I'm gone the 2nd period blows up - so to summarize, two Ottawa goals and two Red Wing injuries? Blech.

theyre still living off the power play (and got a lot of puck luck in winnipeg).  by the stats test, the underlying 5×5 numbers are a touch better but nothing major.  the pk has been better.  pp too.

living off the power play is not a recipe for long term success.

with that said, by the EYE test they are playing better.  playing harder.  kane has shown life.  the top line is scoring as many of the team's goals as any line in the league.  they'll need someone (kane?) to step up on line 2 and or 3.

who could that be?  kasper?  compher?  i imagine that if it comes, it might have to come from the blue line.  their forwards other than kane leave a lot to be desired with the only one with significant room for growth being kasper.

I don't know much about Tarasenko, but at least based on his career success if he is healthy he should still have more upside at 33 than he is showing.

I've seen Johansson make a few mistakes, but I've also seen him play way harder than Petry can any more. I wish Jeff a *long* and comfortable recovery from whatever is ailing him.

I agree this line-up just doesn't look like it can be a high pressure over 60 minutes kind of 5 on 5 offense, but they do have the players to score more 5 on 5 transition goals with at least two lines, and hopefully the big improvements in zone exits and faster transitions are going to show up as more transition scoring.

Kulfan with a story about the Wings shooting the puck more, which is great, but I think he's missing part of the story. I'm sure one reason the Wings wouldn't shoot the puck without a perfect chance in the past was because they couldn't get pucks back after shots. That always makes an offense reluctant to shoot. A big key to getting them to shoot more was in getting them to skate harder to recover pucks.

Also liked McLellan talking about changing up lines to match-up with the opposition. Kulfan quotes him as saying he likes to keep pairs of forward (e.g. Larkin and Raymond) mostly together but then rotate the third player for some immediate objective/matchup.
