Congress is a coequal branch of government.... an election was held concurrently with the Presidential election, and the GOP's "mandate" was *checks notes* 3 votes.

So, sounds like Newtie (and Johnson and Trump) and whoever need to deal with that reality and stop complaining.

But, I've been told over and over it was a Republican mandate!

I don't agree with McHenry on much politically, but the dude knows his **** in terms of how Congress works.

Kamala Harris on January 6th gets the honor to do something that only Al Gore (2000), Richard Nixon (1960), Hubert Humphrey (1968), and John Brecinridge (1860,  a 4 way race) have done.  Preside over their own electoral defeat for President.

Nixon's words were eloquent, as you'd expect.

In his opening speech, Speaker Mike Johnson just recited a long prayer attributed to Thomas Jefferson. As @jackjenkins.me and others have pointed out, Jefferson never said any of this: www.monticello.org/research-edu...

McGovern: I want to take issue with the word choice of the gentlelady who kept on talking about a mandate. Where is the mandate? Is it in the room with us? Maybe it's hiding under the table. The last time I checked, Republicans lost seats in the house
