Edman85 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 I have to fly into DC for work on Monday, and... well... if the weather forecast this weekend is what it was four years ago, history would be a whole lot different. Jan 6 wouldn't have happened. Quote

The guy just lies as he breathes From what I've read the Jefferson prayer has been bandied about since the early 1900's. First promoted by John McQuire from Connecticut. (For MAGA that was when Democrats were the conservative leading pro slave party, before Nixon was the One and Reagan sealed the deal) It has been published several times since, mostly in right leaning religious magazines.) I'm not sure the honorable SOH is that aware of its history Quote

Basically, as you drive the highways the last two days the road signs were telling you to: stock up on ammunition, hydro and gold and to cannibalize your neighbors and to speculate on baby formula so as to achieve dominance over the weak. romad1 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) I was suspicious of VDOT when it didn't mention toilet paper: a real luxury during the crazed times of a powerful nor'easter. Edited January 5 by romad1 1 Quote

My son says at MSU the school admins would laugh at you if you suggested you couldn't make it to class in 4" of snow. Quote

Then again as a former traffic reporter, the first significant or even first snowfall screws up traffic no matter where you are. People forget how to drive and then you get the yahoos in their pickups or SUV's who think that they can't skid on ice. Quote
oblong Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Doesn’t the infrastructure around dealing with it matter too? When you have plenty of warning and it looks to be a multiple day thing along with it coming on the end of a break… just relax and stay off the roads. Save it for people who really need to get out and let the workers do their job. On that note I have always wanted to be a plow and salt truck driver clearing the roads. Having to get out at 2-3 am to ride around for 7-8 hours helping everyone else get around sounds tantalizing. Quote

The issue is really that when we get snow events they are the slobbernocker nor'easters that cycle a lot of moisture in from the ocean or this weird storm that appears to unusually wet for coming across from the West. Winter is like a month here though. We will be outdoors practicing softball by mid Feb. 1 Quote

He's been gone for almost 30 years now, otherwise I'd ask if that was the case. 1 Quote

I would check this if you want to know if your government agency is open for business. Although i suspect they won't announce until late. https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/snow-dismissal-procedures/current-status/ Quote
CMRivdogs Posted January 5 Posted January 5 They've closed them down here too, probably just as well. I did get a note that Colonial Williamsburg was not opening til 11 AM. I guess current colonialists aren't as they were back in 1774. Quote

My supervisor says he's okay with me opting out even if others want to make that drive from the airport. I'm assuming the flight gets cancelled. Quote

The VP is enthusiastically performing her role to a member of the opposting party with grace and dignity and excitement. You want a striking display of differences between the two parties? You got it here. And you'll get it later today when they certify the results without incident. 3 1 Quote
