He did grest with the picks but he traded a #8 overall pick for a 2nd round pick. And at the time, there was no guarantees he would turn that pick into a Branch type player. Very good draft, from the scouting to the actual pick.

ok.  the "#8 overall pick" thing is dumb.  who cares where he was picked?  he was over drafted.  so what?  and he got to move up in the draft AND didnt have to suck up salary cap space to pay him.  great move.

now if you'll excuse me i need to go listen to viqueens podcasts to get my daily dose of schadenfreude .

Yeah, it turned out great but we traded him for a future pick. I wanted him to help us win games that season. But I won't argue the long term results, everything worked out just fine. 😃

The coach quit.  The players didn’t.  Yes, Darnold was awful again. But the coach quit.

Coach should be fired.   Don't care about 14-3.    if Sam wasn't getting it done, I thought you had Daniel Jones on the bench.   Daniel Jones isn't great, but he is a good athlete, he could have created a spark.

This year for the Vikings was very similar to two years ago.  Good record but won a lot of close games.  Playoffs always show what teams really are.  Just watching them all year, they were a lot worse than their record.  I love the situation the Vikings are in right now being a Lions fan.  The decision they have to make with Darnold is a tough one.  I have to admit, I thought the Lions could of been in a similar situation that Vikings are in now a few years ago.  Good thing is Goff ended up being a lot better than I think even Holmes thought.  It definitely helped with one of the best OL's in the league.  Darnold can be successful in this league if you give him time although that is 75% of the QBs in this league.  Goff struggles with pressure sometimes although I think his intelligence is underrated.  Reading defenses and making the right decision.

You could tell the difference between Goff and Darnold yesterday. When Goff in trouble, and knows he has to take a sack, he just turtles himself for a loss of 5 yards. Darnold looks panicked, continues to drop back and is sacked for a loss of 10. We all make fun of Goff when he turtles, but I appreciate that it’s coming from a place of intelligence. Minimize the damage, protect yourself.

Goff can also process the blitz a lot quicker and make quick decisions with the ball.

Sam Darnold is going from a mega deal extension to a one-year prove-it in the course of two weeks.

You seem to forget there’s a team out there called the Las Vegas Raiders.   Yes, other than them there probably aren’t many suitors wanting to give him a mega deal anymore.

I would franchise tag him.

This was such a tough dilemma before last night.  They could franchise him and pay him about $40M for next season but with a robust market for him in FA that would mean missing out on a potential 5/$280 type guaranteed contract with someone else.   Not sure how he and his agent would take that move by the Vikes.  They would really be ****ing him over.  If they wanted to keep him they should step up and give him a long term deal.

Obviously things have changed after the past few weeks.  Beyond the Raiders, I’m not sure who is giving him that long term deal.   I think he’d be happy to take the tag from the Vikes now but not sure that even makes sense for the team now.  That $40M is better spent other places.

Yup. So much with a QB comes down to staying calm and of course processing speed. If you process faster you can anticipate what's coming and that reduces panic. Even when Darnold did get the ball off he was highly stressed - evidenced by him throwing behind his receiver a lot . His receivers were bailing him out with some very tough reach back catches.

Case in point.
