RandyMarsh Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Is there a reason why they couldn't just have half the teams get a bye in say week 8 and the other half in week 9? You're still going to get 18 regular season weeks of football, sure those 2 bye weeks will feature less "local games" since there will only be 8 games total each week but maybe you can make up for any lost revenue in that by bidding out some Saturday Night Prime Time games? 1 Quote

MichiganCardinal Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 I did a thing and booked a (fully refundable) AirBnB in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for 2/7-2/10. No way I could ever afford tickets to the game, but just being on Bourbon Street would be amazing. Don't let me down boys. 2 1 Quote
lordstanley Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) The Calgary @ LA Kings NHL game was postponed tonight, by the way. I know the NFL is much bigger business and the game is still 4 days away, but wonder when shifting the venue becomes a real possibility. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43336438/nfl-monitoring-los-angeles-wildfires-ahead-vikings-rams Edited January 9 by lordstanley Quote

MichiganCardinal Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Maybe I'm crazy, but I really think the Steelers will give the Ravens a game on Saturday. The teams split the season series, which in and of itself should tell you the spread of Ravens -10 is ridiculous, but on top of that the game that the Steelers lost three weeks ago, Pickens was out with an injury. The Ravens run defense is possibly the best in the league, but their pass defense is among the worst. People are seeing that the Steelers lost four in a row and are counting them out, but those games were against the Eagles, Ravens, Chiefs, and Bengals. This is still a good team. Tomlin will have them ready to go. And maybe most importantly, the Steelers were designed by Kevin Colbert and Omar Khan to beat this Ravens team. They recognized by 2019 and 2020 that Lamar was going to be the player to beat if they wanted to continue winning the AFC North. Their defense is specifically constructed to slow him down. I expect a classic AFC North low scoring defensive showdown, which plays to the Steelers strengths. Quote

They made adjustments and have been completely different. Their overall stats are still skewed from the early part but they have been playing as well as anyone the past 8 weeks. This game comes down to Lamar and his OL ability to give him time to throw against the Steeler DL. I also see Tomlin as a huge factor. He’s become one of the worst in game decision makers. He’s terrible and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tomlin will make more inexplicable coaching calls. He’s all motivate and very little field generalship. Not sure if I’m ok laying 10 points but I do like Baltimore to win Quote

In spite of that, if the D can respond, maybe they get past Balt., but not likely in my thinking. Quote
NYLion Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) Trying to kill time here until wildcard weekend so I figured I'd ask you guys. Who is your preferred opponent? Now we all know that the Lions can beat anybody and shouldn't fear anybody but, as a fan, which team do you think would be the best matchup for the Lions next weekend. Personally, I take Washington. Rookie QB facing this team in that environment seems like way too tall of a task. Green Bay would probably be the team I'd like to face the least but that would also mean that Philly would be out so a bit torn on that one. Not too interested in facing Stafford and those weapons either. I'd expect the Lions to beat either but still... So, what say you guys? Edited January 9 by NYLion Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I want Washington. I hate having to face a team a third time with Minnesota or Green Bay. I think they are the weakest of the teams. There is also a score to settle with them after the 1991 NFC Championship Game and 1999 Wild Card Game. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 9 Posted January 9 The Steelers are becoming a more consistent version of the Fontes Lions. Win about 9 or 10 games a year, lose on the road in the wild card round, repeat. 2 Quote

Fine with playing Minnesota in the championship game, but not back to back. I'll be cheering for Green Bay, Washington and the Rams this weekend and as long as one of them wins that will be fine. holygoat Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I don't want any part of the Rams. They're going to be motivated to play for Angelenos affected by the wildfires, and they're healthy. I could absolutely see them go on a magical run. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 9 Posted January 9 They said that about the Rams last year. Stafford hasn't been good his last three games. He hasn't thrown for 200 yards in last three games and isn't even completing 60% of his passes. Quote
lordstanley Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) Lakers game cancelled for tonight. Have to think Rams-Vikings will be moved The one team no one is talking about is the Buccaneers. They could be more dangerous than the Rams. Played the Lions almost as close in last year’s playoffs as the Rams did. Early this season beat the Lions and thumped both the Commanders and Eagles. Survived injury troubles in middle of season that looked to derail season. Have won 6 of their past 7 (albeit over weak competition). Offense is 4th in the NFL in points per game whereas the Rams were 20th. Maybe I’m overrating them and should discount for weakness of their division. Edited January 9 by lordstanley Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 A change from a few days ago but I think I’d most prefer to play the Commanders. Then the Vikings, then the Packers, then the Rams. I really think they’d beat any of these four teams, but I think the Rams are the type of team you have the least room for error. Coming off a bye week, I don’t want to come out a little cold and have it burn us. They also have the best QB of the four. The Packers are so bipolar that I don’t trust them. If I knew I was getting the Packers team that lost to Minnesota and Chicago to end the season, they’d be my preferred opponent. But when we might get the team that went 12 rounds with us on Thursday Night Football a month ago, no thanks. The Vikings would play us closer than they did last week, but I think Goff has that defense figured out to a large extent. They were out of synch for a number of drives but had no problem turning it on late. I’m pretty confident the Lions would win this one again. The Commanders can have a good offense, with a mobile QB, which initially gave me some pause. But their run defense is atrocious, and makes me think that game might not be all that close. In their last three games they’ve given up 211 to the Eagles, 211 to the Falcons, and 228 yards to the Cowboys. On the season, they’ve allowed more rush yards per game than all but Carolina and New Orleans. I think it would be water vs. sieve with our offensive line, and Daniels would have a lot of trouble keeping up. Quote
Nate7474 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Every game at this point is a potential loss so ultimately I don’t care which team we play. I also think we are the favorites for any of the games as well. As far as in the NFC and ranking teams that make me the most to least nervous. Eagles Bucs Rams Vikings Commanders Packers Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 9 Posted January 9 The Rams are 20th in offense and 17th in defense. They have a negative point differential. Stafford hasn't exactly been lighting it up recently. I don't get the fear of them. Quote

The Rams coaches are way too conservative. Give Stafford the ball back with under a minute left and within one score? Terrifying. Quote
