I made the mistake of turning on CNN last night to get some updates on the fires as Twitter is starting to suck for even breaking news.  Learned that CNN now sucks with it as well.  That said, after a quick jump to Fox, I was back on CNN.  The host and 1/2 of her guests (the 10 o'clock show, not sure of her name) didn't want to talk about any potential gov't failures and put it all on climate change and begged for Biden to help immediately because Californians have less then 2 weeks of federal help before Trump does everything to derail restoration efforts.  And apparently to give 'both sides' an argument, the other 1/2 of the panel refused to address climate change and said it was a disaster only owned by the Dems.

Newsom has recently talked about regulations hurting California, he's going to be in a lot of trouble politically (assuming he runs in 4 years) if people are still trying to rebuild their homes but are stymied by state/local regulations.

Best coverage without all the political BS is using the YouTube app on the TV and watching local LA channels KCAL or KABC.

Who in the world are prepared for wildfires?

Ignorant easterners have no idea what happens when it doesn't rain for 10 months and then you get 60mph desert winds coming at you through a bunch of rugged terrian. It's like saying "people aren't prepared for a volcano."  The planet usually gets the last word on human efforts to 'be prepared'

Didn't Trump ask his personal SCOTUS to block sentencing? That's definitely going to happen today. There might also be a conviction overturned as a bonus.

The last couple of natural disaster events we have had (Helene, now this) have really laid bare how difficult it is to obtain news about these events that isn't completely framed in the context of politics.

It's easier to get better, more contextualized information about the fires from watching WGN's weather guy (in a city over 2,000 miles away) than it is to get it from the national news, and that is an absolute failure of the media *and* the consumer (who apparently wants this)

Local news isn't without it's flaws, but it's so much easier to obtain actual information even outside of natural disaster events than it is any other venue these days.

What about the Weather Channel?  I have stayed up late watching that during things like Hurricanes.  I haven't been around for these last two events.

I'm guessing they are decent too, although I don't have cable and not sure the streaming situation there.

Western NC and Eastern TN learned this lesson recently...

I don't care what they talked about. It gives the appearance of conflict of interest.

Of course it’s Alito 😑

In regards to the conspiracy theorist stuff, I saw a video on twitter of a guy saying Trump was playing 4d chess regarding the 'Gulf of America' and the reason was that Biden's recent executive order bans offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.  Trump changes the name and hence he nullifies the executive order!  Oh man, Trump is so much smarter than us.....

@MotownWebGuy, we need a facepalm emoji added to the hot keys for this thread.

That's what he gets for going the DEI route.  Go woke, go broke!

She seems super conservative, but reasonably honest.  Trump misjudged the honest part.

For sale.  Toyota, Boeing, Chevron, and Google have also contributed.

Locally, GM and Ford have both donated.

“Businesses are looking now and saying there is a lot of change that is on the table, and it’s not small things, it’s big things,” said Tom Leppert, a former Republican mayor of Dallas who also once ran companies such as construction giant Turner and the education company Kaplan.

Private jets shuttled a line of CEOs to Mar-a-Lago soon after Election Day. Then came a cascade of $1 million corporate donations to Trump’s inauguration fund from such behemoths as Amazon, Uber and Meta, as well as smaller players, including telehealth brand Hims & Hers.

The seven-figure donations follow a shrewd political calculus, a relatively small price for a public gesture of goodwill to the new administration, public affairs executives said. Donors who give $1 million receive six tickets to inaugural events, including a reception with cabinet appointees, a “candlelight dinner” with Trump and Melania Trump and a black-tie ball.
