One clip I saw was of Kevin Cramer (from ND) basically defending Hegseth by saying, essentially, "who amongst us hasn't shown up for work drunk before"....

Just not serious people.

Unserious is exactly the word.

It's almost funny in a way. I think about the kind of nose to the grindstone republican Paul Ryan was - and him being a big fan of Ayn Rand and her idea that the competent people keep the world running and it's the 'socialists' freeloaders that drag it down. But Rand had it wrong, at least in regard to contemporary America. It is the quiet competent people that keep the world running, but it's not socialists who are the freeloaders, it's the grifters, backslappers, influencers, the charter members of the 'good old boy' networks, the moneyed enfant terribles born on 3rd base,  and all the other *unserious* people. And they are certainly having their hour.

Someone needs to write an update to "Atlas Shrugged' with the real story.

I agree with the Congressman that this is a very complex issue.

I do not believe that trans people should be allowed to participate in Women’s sports.   There are issues with fairness, safety, competition, and opportunity for women that are all potentially damaged by their participation.

I absolutely do believe that trans people should be afforded the same rights as everyone else in our society.    They should not be treated unfairly based on their gender classification.

I am having a hard time reconciling these beliefs.

If I was forced to choose, there are many more women playing women’s sports than there are trans.   I would probably side in their favor as the overwhelming majority but I do realize the massive slippery slope that creates.

We keep talking about men/boys wanting to be women. There is probably an signifiant number of girls/women who want to be men. Should they be banned from playing men's spots like golf, archery, rifle shooting etc?

Megaholic. You seem constantly confused by logic. Maybe you need to get out more.

I would say that life isn’t fair sometimes and we should be empathetic to what trans people go thru.  Part of being an athlete and competitor is having to go up against people with advantages over you. Many of those are not the result of hard work and practice, etc but because of genes and biology and perhaps coming from a family that can provide better nutrition and training. That’s part of life lessons.

I didn’t play basketball for my middle school but my friends did and they had to play against Chris Webber who was at least 6’5” and looked 20 years old when we were 12 and 13 and maybe 5’9” and chubby with leftover baby fat.   Is that more fair than if  our girls squad had to play against a trans person who could have had physical advantages?   Why does gender alone make it ok?

when I hear parents scream about this issue it makes me curious to know how they feel about participation trophies because their beef sounds very similar. They want to pave the way for their baby girls to make things as easy as possible.

Normal people at normal jobs held to higher standards and ppl here think its well said that the most exclusive debate society in the world cant hold thesmeves to same standards and flex it and thus should look the other way and reward someone who fails to meet the standards us normals do every day with one of the most powerful jobs on the planet.

Yeah that's well said.   Well said dip****tery

As a matter of fact that there was a time when a powerful House committee chairman actually had to resign his chairmanship when he got caught drunk in the Tidal pool with a stripper.

Very well said.

I am absolutely incredulous reading/listening to this “argument”. Are you ****ing Kidding me?

how many of you Motown bombers here show up drunk for work? How many of you cheat on your wife or your husband?

Well, hey Mr. Mark, Wayne Mr. Mark, Wayne Whalen, Mr. Marc mean Wollen Mullen…. uh, you know who you are….

The answer out here in the normal world is “not many.”  Not many and to make it sound like this is the norm is not only ridiculous. It’s shameful and these are supposed to be the leaders of our society who ever gently although they should be held to a  higher standard seem to be held to absolutely no ****ing standard.
so characterizing that dribble pouring out of his mouth as he sit behind a microphone as “very well said“ may be the stupidest thing I’ve read here in a while. No it’s not very well. Said it’s it’s rather awful.

so we have this to look forward to. The fox couch potato, who has never managed a budget in his life, who has never managed military personnel, who other than serving for the time that he did didn’t continue his education and his job expansion in the military…… This is who you want to put in charge of all of it ? So every woman, or immigrant man or woman who is a member of the military, this is a person who will inspire them?

It sounds like a bad Goldie Hawn movie premise….. Throw in Gomer Pyle, too.

I guess we've finally failed Mr Lincoln's test question: "of the people, by the people and for the people" has indeed perished, apparently too highbrow. Instead we've opted for, "of the grifters, by the grifters and for the grifters" in its place.

Really awesome to hold a job that involves being subjected to randomized drug testing with fines and penalties attached, periodic criminal background checks, etc., yet the soon-to-be leader of the Pentagon is gonna get confirmed not only while not being qualified on the merits, but also with a history of drug and alcohol abuse, adultery and possible sexual assault.

Just not a serious government. But clearly Tigeraholic's entertainment is our number one priority lol

Umm he was speaking to republicans and democrats.

Who gives a ****... Pete Hegseth should be judged on Pete Hegseth's record. And his record reflects that he would have trouble keeping a job at the local Applebees, let alone the Pentagon.
