CMRivdogs Posted April 10 Posted April 10 From the look on her face and posture it seems to me she was unaware of the announcement Trump was making at the time. I think she was ambushed. Especially considering that she was in DC to address bipartisan cooperation to strengthen American manufacturing and to discuss specific tariff issues related to the Michigan auto industry. Yes, she should have probably know better considering her past interactions with the Gangster President 1 Quote

Yes, she should have probably know better considering her past interactions with the Gangster President It's difficult because the job requires you to eat a lot of **** from time to time, but even with that, it's really hard to envision what positive or achievable tangible outcome comes from meeting with the guy currently imposing chaos on the state in the first place. Maybe it's the right thing to do, but man it was poorly executed in this case. Quote

Yes, she should have probably know better considering her past interactions with the Gangster President This is part of politics in DC. She put herself in a position to be exploited so it’s on her when she gets used for a nice press moment by Dear Leader. This never happens if she’s not there kissing ass. 1 Quote

I’m sure they all sold at the top and will buy again just before Trump announces he’s dropping the Chinese tariff down to 10%. Quote

oblong Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I'm still not convinced. I will argue that people are confusing what Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan should be doing vs what Gretchen Whitmer, potential democratic nominee for President in 2028 should be doing. I don't give a crap about electoral politics or photo ops in the oval office. Being there doesn't mean she's endorsing whatever he's signing. "It doesn't look good" or "her advisers let her down". So what? Did she suggest or endorse any particular policy? That's what I'm asking about "what did she do wrong?" It's not a rhetorical question because I've been busy the last 2 days so I'm only seeing bits and pieces. Quote
Hongbit Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Unfortunately, the Governor of Michigan can’t do a thing to influence Trump or his decisions. Nobody can. There was nothing that being with him in DC did to help her constituents. The best way she could’ve helped was to stay home and nor be an actor in his show. 1 Quote

gehringer_2 Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Ambition brings out the hollow in a lot of politicians. McCain was a totally different guy as a Presidential candidate than he was as a Senator. Is that what is going to happen to Whitmer - it could - time will tell. Quote

She could also have taken measure of the man and decided she needs to fight this. That's the wishful/wishcasted version of this by me. Quote

Hongbit Posted April 10 Posted April 10 When was the last time Trump called someone a “hard worker and a very good person” and they actually were? Everyone he praises like that is a slimy, maga bootlicker. Words like this from Trump are only reserved for those that are on his team. If she’s really still fighting him, this would mark the first time in history that he’s spoke glowingly about someone that is vigorously against him. 2 Quote
