gehringer_2 Posted Monday at 06:52 PM Posted Monday at 06:52 PM It's suddenly going to dawn on John Roberts that since he has sold the credibility of his court for a handful of GOP magic beans there is going to be little outcry from the public that it's being ignored. 1 Quote

That's the problem, he can start to disappear anyone he wants to. It's almost like something Russia or N. Korea would do. And who can stop him? Does SCOTUS have the authority to use the military during a constitutional crisis? My opinion is he's going to keep doing this crap until the people rise up in protest. Then he'll declare martial law and suspend the constitution. But....the price of eggs!! 1 Quote
RatkoVarda Posted Monday at 07:30 PM Posted Monday at 07:30 PM I think it is likely a few BLM and Antifa and pro-Palestine "leaders" are picked up under Terrorist or Wartime statutes and sent immediately to slave prisons - even though they are Americans and really, that's all you need to do, to get people to shut up and not object to all the lawlessness. 1 Quote
Motown Bombers Posted Monday at 08:12 PM Posted Monday at 08:12 PM (edited) You know this is serious when I email John James about Trump defying the Supreme Court and disappearing US citizens and he responds right away without mentioning his support for Trump. Still a completely canned response. What a joke he is. Quote

So I wouldn't tell a kid to leave or whatever, but rather "Hey, follow me, let's go over there to where Dave is." I'm not even sure they knew it was a rule. I suppose if it's done it like you said, they might not get that message. I think in general though that kids are learning to fear and mistrust adults and that some adults may now be afraid to be friendly to kids. Quote

I don't think teaching children that adults are to be feared and mistrusted is a good lesson. Insofar as there unfortunately are adults out there that need to be feared and mistrusted, I can't entirely agree that it's not a good lesson. I do agree that it's sad. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gift_of_Fear Quote

And thinking about it during scouting there really was no reason to be alone with a kid or group of kids. Even at a camp it’s just an issue of safety if you go on a hike or swimming or whatever. Between leaders and parents the ratio was probably 3:1. Quote

antrat Posted Tuesday at 07:25 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:25 PM I just re-read In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson. A non-fiction book about the American ambassador and his family living in Germany during the rise of Hitler. The parallels to what is happening here in America at this moment are astounding. How regular, ordinary people became enraptured by a beast and all that lead to. Scary times. I never thought I would live to see this in America. 3 Quote
TJ Rollercoaster Posted Tuesday at 10:53 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:53 PM It's important to recognize that no one is coming to 'save' America from this administration (and it's important to recognize that it's not just Trump, but the entire administration). Congress won't save America, nor the Senate, nor the Courts. Even those that hope for the mid-term election result will likely be disappointed - with a corrupt administration that has access to ALL of American's personal data, do you think that there will be free and fair mid-term elections? Again, it's up to each person to figure out what are their personal 'red lines', and what they will do when those lines are crossed. With the tech bros on the side of the administration, don't expect to see widespread coverage of protests in your social media feeds, or in the mainstream media - they want you to think that you're alone, or think that you're a small minority. 3 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted Tuesday at 11:44 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:44 PM Next year is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. There had been hope that the celebrations might come close to rivaling those in 1976 for the 200th anniversary. Many of the organizations that were part of the individual state celebrations are now having to deal with DOGE budget cuts. https://www.axios.com/2025/04/15/doge-neh-grant-cuts-americas-250th-birthday?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter_axiospm&stream=top Quote DOGE's cost-cutting may get in the way of the "grand celebration" President Trump, has ordered for July 4, 2026 — America's 250th birthday. The big picture: State humanities councils planning 250th anniversary celebrations all over the country have had their funding slashed, and those organizations tell Axios they likely won't be able to execute the big, patriotic plans they had been making. Trump has called for an "extraordinary celebration" next summer, and signed an executive order in his first few days in office creating a federal task force to plan it. The chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities is part of that task force, and state humanities councils across the country had a leading role in planning public events to mark the occasion. But 80% of the NEH's staff was placed on administrative leave earlier this month, according to the Federation of State Humanities Councils. Those layoffs came just days after the 56 state and jurisdictional humanities councils were alerted that their funding grants were being terminated. "These were funds that were already appropriated, that had already been distributed through a competitive process, and they had already been under contract to be provided," said Julie Ziegler, the CEO and executive director of Humanities Washington. 1 Quote
