CMRivdogs Posted February 10 Posted February 10 This may be the only two.... I disagree on straws. I find both plastic and paper useless. Aluminum straws are another story Quote

Edman85 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Flying to DC tomorrow, which means there's a chance I'm sitting next to a congressman on the flight. If so, I am prepared to filibuster the whole way asking if they are okay with (blank)? 1 Quote

Screwball Posted February 10 Posted February 10 I could probably put this in the investing thread because it is about money, but it's only pennies... I'm sure the penny thing will become a hot topic in the coming days and it got me to thinking. As I understand it, the idea is to quit making pennies. What do we know about pennies? 1/100 of a dollar. Since I'm a retired engineer and have been brainwashed to think process/price/savings first or I get sent to corporate Siberia, my first thought was to look into the numbers. United States Mint does a nice job giving us just that. This link is really cool as it shows us how coins are blanked from sheets into pretty coins down the road. Links to specifications from weight, content, and size. A penny is suppose to be .750 diameter, which you can find a link to in the first link below. Coin Production - US Mint This is a link to how many pennies are produced by year. Circulating Coins Production In 2024 there were two different pennies minted from two different mints (Denver/Philly). Grand total of 3,338,000,000. As far as diameter; Quote
gehringer_2 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 (edited) It's time to just move the decimal point over. One 'new dollar' to 10 old ones. Then the change in your pocket might be useful for something again. Short of that none of the current coins are worth the effort to carry them Edited February 10 by gehringer_2 Quote

Tigermojo Posted February 10 Posted February 10 I'm not religious but I was raised Catholic so I know the teachings of Jesus. How can any Trump supporter claim to be Christian? He allows people to be the worst version of themselves through misogyny, ignorance and hate. They can insult, harrass and bully whoever they want and they love him for it. Last night fans booed Taylor Swift at the super bowl. Trump said finally people are healing. By harrassing a woman? He's made comments about other women recently as well. Wasn't he supposed to protect women whether they liked it or not? His narcissism has replaced Christianity. Is that not the definition of the antichrist? 3 1 1 Quote

You forgot “the rich shall inherit the Kingdom of Heaven” The Oligarch’s Bible omits the part about selling your mansions and follow me. Or how its easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle. But then I grew up Presbyterian with a mixture of Brethren. What do I know. Both were once considered heretics 1 Quote

I have a few hundred dollars worth of coins and I haven't had time to separate them and roll them up. There are companies that have those machines now but they want to take about 20% of your money, so I have avoided them. I have thought about giving them to someone in need and letting them roll them up the coins themselves and keep the money. I am not sure whether that would be worth their time though. It may just be insulting. Quote

Donate your coins at Coinstar to help others I don't see Elon Musk's checkbook listed as one of the charities but i'm sure the racist interns will add that soon. 1 Quote

They don’t charge any fees for it and they have just about anything you could think of. 1 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted February 10 Posted February 10 I'm seeing signs at our local markets that Coinstar will also turn your change int bitcoins. Not sure how that works or what the fees would be. Quote

I feel the same way. I have a mess of coins from back when we carried change to dispose of, plus my wife has assigned me another mess of change that belonged to her father who passed 40 plus years ago. I have no idea where to begin with that collection of basically loose change. I may just pass it along to my grandson Quote

Would be a good treasure hunt anyways. https://www.coinvaluechecker.com/ Edited February 10 by Tigeraholic1 Quote
