My nephew was in a company that claimed its blockchain currency was designed to enable charitable giving across the globe. Like fun it was. He's not in that company any more. Quote
oblong Posted February 10 Posted February 10 We always throw in our change into a container we have then when it's full go to Lowe's and use the coinstar machine there and use it as a Lowe's gift card to pay for something around the house we want... like blinds or whatever. But we use cash less and less so that's slowed down a little. Quote

oblong Posted February 10 Posted February 10 When have republicans ever made anything better for the poor or disabled? Quote
Tigerbomb13 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 They need to take from the poor and disabled so they can deepen their tax cuts for the wealthy. So predictable. 2 1 Quote

Tiger337 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Republicans used to pretend to care about people with disabilities. Now that their leader has said they are ugly and disgusting to look at, they don't want anything to do with them. Quote

Make Bribery Great Again! Let's get rid of the Pendleton Act too while we're at it. Quote

I recently re-read a Dave Brandstetter mystery in which one character rails against rights for people with disability, claiming that 'now they make the rules for everything!' I remember thinking when I first read it that it wasn't the kind of thinking that would ever catch on. I was quite naive in those days.... 1 Quote

I have to say the FCPA is pretty weird to work under. I was working for an oil industry services company and we had to drill on FCPA all the time, and in fact one of our divisions got nailed by it once which put the whole company under extra oversight. It's been a number of years and I probably have the details wrong at this point, but IIRC the weird thing is that FCPA doesn't (at least the state of the law then) actually prohibit bribery in general, only the very specific act of giving a government official money for doing something that is part of his official duties. It's very narrow in that regard. So under FCPA you can still toss money around in a developing country like crazy. You can pay off the president, as long as you don't pay off the official who is supposed to approve your permits. I get the idea, and I suppose some FCPA is better than no law at all on this end, but I don't believe it drove any stakes through the heart of overseas business bribery and so the general objection from US business was that it didn't do enough good to justify the compliance cost. Now of course they *would* say that even if it weren't true - and I was never high enough on the food chain to evaluate the claim one way or the other. 🙈🙉🙊 Edited February 10 by gehringer_2 1 Quote
