I'm just saying do what MAGA did to win voters. Tell them they are poisoning the blood of Americans and will eat your pets. Tell them West Virginia is a mountain of garbage. Promise to ban Christians and deport white people.

This is why ultimately both the short and long term plan has to focus on where people get their messaging. And that's going to be hard because there are a whole lot of people getting their info from places like Fox, social media, and other various right wing media sound bites-and a lot of places they go are showing that kind of media (laundromat, diners, even waiting rooms at doctor's offices). In '08, one advantage Obama had was getting his message out on SM, but that seems to now be a huge advantage for right wing extremists.

I've reached out to people in the past IRL in situations far less important than national elections-only to find myself locked in with my own set of face eating leopards. There has got to be a better way to reach people.

If these people are so obviously dumb and gullible what's to say we welcome them in and then when the next charlatan or huckster comes along they don't just fall for them too? And again, ignorance of the law doesn't mean you can go around and do things without repercussion. The same is true of an ignorant vote.

I mean, that's exactly what happened. This woman from Baldwin voted for Biden in 2020 and then switched to Trump because he lied about free IVF.

The goal for the D Party (and the anti-Trump movement more generally) right now is to push back against this administration in anyway possible and, in 2026, win a bunch of elections. That requires more voters - certainly when you look at the outcome in 2024, it even requires some folks who voted for him.

You don't have to give absolution or anything, but when people feel like they were lied to and betrayed by Trump, the natural response for a movement that wants to earn back power and win elections would be to take whatever help you can get and deal with the next charlatan or huckster when they come. Or even work on policy in a way that makes it harder for the next charlatan or huckster to gain the kind of following that Trump did.

I recently read about AOC's first campaign for office-she went from door to door and interacted with constituents who had never been reached out to, and in some cases who had never voted. This was one reason she was successful against an incumbent who had never bothered to do this.

Perhaps we should be encouraging more younger people to run for office at the lower levels, and getting their message across at those local levels also.

The irony is, AOC then got mad when Dems started primarying progressives and blamed the Jews.

True, which believe it or not tells me that primarying in elections is important.

It tells me AOC is not the example for Dems. She came into congress throwing bombs, attacked Biden for three years, voted against good legislation because it wasn't perfect, and then finally came around after it was too late when she realized she needs to build coalitions.

I do still think other Dems can copy her method of running in a primary, and have some success.

When AOC primaried Crowley, Crowley endorsed AOC and supported her. When Bowman got primaried by Latimer, she blamed the Jews. Ironically, the Dems that need to be primaried are the most like AOC like Tlaib.

Looking at Tlaib's district I'm struck how much of it includes Little South Africa, aka Livonia.   That's not a group of people --historically-- who are given over to identity politics unless it revolves around Polish Pogrom Day or Columbus' Birthday and Celebration of Native American Genocide Day.

I’m a bit shocked he didn’t also officially change the name of the language to American.

Livonia went 49-48 for Kamala... a margin of just under 400 votes.  That surprised me but Rashida lost Livonia by just over 1300 votes.  But anything south of Joy road and west of Southfield in that district is probably close to a majority or more of Arab/Muslim descent now.  It's not just Dearborn.

Now Garden City.... that went 53-44 for Trump and Rashida lost 49-43... but that is a small number of voters.  13-15K total vs 61K in Livonia.

We talk about the damage he will do domestically and, terrible as it is, you can squint and see ways that you can pick the pieces back up.

The damage internationally? We're ****ed, no one will ever trust us again after this clown show.

This is a definite turning point.  They got what they needed.  God bless the people of Ukraine and God bless the people, many of them my friends and colleagues, in Poland.  They're next.

Today it's confirmed that Russia won the cold war.

I'm old enough to remember when these guys were going to "make us more respected" by the rest of the world.

Certainly didn't see it in that display.... I saw them gang up and bully a leader whose country was invaded by one of our enemies (or at least enemies until 1/20/25 anyway), and I saw that leader basically tell them to pound sand, with full justification. Right to their face.

Another day, another embarrassment.

Only liberals are asked to accept these people. After 2020, all MAGA did was say the election was stolen and Biden wasn't a legitimate president. They tried to undermine Biden at every point and Trump was publicly cheering for the economy to collapse. MAGA said Latinos were violent criminals who are poisoning the blood of America and need to be kicked out and they were like where do I sign up.

You are correct on this about MAGA's, but a very large number of people that voted for Trump didn't think he won in 2020 and don't believe illegals were all violent criminals.

What that large group were, were folks that were lied to by the left regarding 50 intelligence officers that said it was Russian disinformation, that by simply asking if it could have been a lab leak they were mocked, that inflation wasn't an issue, and despite the lack of interviews and press briefings from Biden and videos of him walking around mindlessly umpteen times that he was not in decline, but rather sharper then ever (Joe Tapper is coming out with a book about his decline now after spending the last 4 years on CNN fighting against anyone that even worried about a decline, **** you Tapper).  They saw democratic mayors in northern states freak out when the southern states decided to burden them with the problems faced by a large influx of illegals that they have had to endure the entire time.

You didn't accept any of them, you mocked them.  The reaction of large city mayors on immigration was the most obvious 'show your ass' moment by your party in recent memory and instead of just publicly agreeing that maybe unfettered unorganized mass migration by illegals into this country may not be the best thing, publicly the party chose to demonize those complaining about it as racists.  Even as Biden took actual steps to deal with it.

Still I wish that large group would have looked deeper into what a Trump 2.0 presidency would be like and voted for Harris.  I don't see how you win over the electorate (consistently at least) without being more accepting.  But I guess continue to mock, doesn't seem to be working right now, but who knows, maybe it will prevent a Trump 3rd term.
