The reason that there was a Bernie/Trump voter in 2016 was because of issues like NAFTA. Sherrod Brown hung on as long as he did in Ohio because he went around the state assailing and speaking out against free trade and he stood up for workers rights at every turn. If Sherrod Brown decided to be a pimp for free trade like some of his Democratic colleagues became and sold out workers he'd have lost a lot sooner in Ohio. I think Jared Golden recognizes the same thing in Maine. It's weird how non-college educated blacks overwhelmingly support Democrats. The thing is, the Bernie or bust voters in 2016 were college educated white man. Joe Biden was the best union president we had in generations and the Bernie or bust voter from 2016 that was so concerned about the working class made a conflict on the other side of the world that didn't involve the US their entire identity. If the approach were via investment incentives, corporate governance reform, financial system reform that would reduce the profit in cannibalizing manufacturers, worker training support -the whole nine yards - THEN you could have have an evolutionary regrowth and an economy that continued to grow while changing. If Trump produces a recession in the name of helping US workers it will be 110% an unforced error. 1 Quote

Call it socialism or whatever you want, but I'd prefer federal price controls and a maximum wage/maximum compensation on corporate executives to tariffs. Quote

mtutiger Posted Tuesday at 11:16 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:16 PM I have no idea if the pullback is real or not, but can somebody explain what we are getting out of any of this? Quote

Those people are genuinely angry and scared. The church group were writing letters to him over Ukraine, Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security, the tarrifs and the disrespect that Trump has shown Canada. I also think most of you on this board are above average consumers as well. So with that, can anyone tell me exactly what Canada and Mexico were supposed to do in order to avoid the Tariffs. I understand that he feels the USMCA is a stupid deal and only a stupid person would sign it, and I agree with the latter portion, but I have not heard any specifics on what he was hoping to accomplish by threatening tariffs. Three guesses who signed the USMCA deal - first two don't count You can probably guess the hype that was raised at the time it was signed Quote

mtutiger Posted Wednesday at 12:53 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:53 AM (edited) Click on the post for all the screenshots... But Lutnick literally begging Doug Ford for an offramp... My favorite part is Lutnick talking about how comments by Canadian politicians are being taken as personal attacks... Especially given Trump calling Canada the 51st State and referring to PM Trudeau as "Governor" Edited Wednesday at 12:56 AM by mtutiger Quote
