Minds well add 25k to the sale price of every house once that is enacted. It would have increased inflation concerns, not lowered them. Eventually it might take the feds to help with some lower priced single family housing, but she had no details on how felt the feds could control that. yup - the problem in housing is on the supply side. The intention to increase housing starts was a good one, but there was not much 'there' there about how to do it. There has to some relief on code and yes -even ADA req's. US building codes have gotten pretty ridiculous - they have become largely a rent seek for specialty contractors, and it's a big reason it's not profitable to build less expensive housing. Newsom has talked a lot about this in CA, but not too many others. Edited Friday at 07:53 PM by gehringer_2 Quote

All respect due to you and your substantial intellect, please keep that in mind here. You said essentially that Democrats lost the election because they constantly tell people that they are racist or misigonyst because they don't agree with every liberal idea about race and gender. And then, you acknowledged that the Democratic candidates themselves did not say this. That leaves only two options that I know of: (1) you believe it is actually the far left leftists whose statements along these lines cost the Democrats the election; or (2) you didn’t actually mean anything like this when you posted it. I’m not sure whether there is a third option, so maybe you can help me with that if there is. Unless what you’re really saying is that you are here only to vent, and as such you don’t make serious comments on the political forum, so we should not take what you say seriously and should not respond to it as such, which, I think you understand that’s not how this forum works. Sorry to be such a bulldog on this point—I’m kind of an Asperger‘s guy, so I’m hard-wired to be like that—but I’m generally very focused on trying to understand what people mean and trying to make sense of it. That’s where I’m actually coming from, not from a position of trying to hammer you and trip you up, although I acknowledge that they can look like the same thing a lot of times. I think that, in general, a fairly substantial number of voters got tired of hearing about DEI being shoved down their throats all over the place and that got tied to politicians, deservedly so or not. Even a dummy like Trump was able to see that and he jumped on it running campaigns around racism for 12 years. There was a chance for a politician on the other side to counter that with some kind of intelligent nuanced view on DEI, but all they did was add to the problem by hammering Trump and his followers for his bigotry. That didn't help. Edited Friday at 08:16 PM by Tiger337 Quote
Biff Mayhem Posted Friday at 08:16 PM Posted Friday at 08:16 PM I’ve got bad news for you all: Trump is going to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Just like my last prediction, I’ll come back and take my licks if I’m wrong. But that won’t be necessary. Just like last time. And in case anyone forgot, I’m not saying this as MAGA or a trumper. Just an impartial observation. Quote

Nobel set it up so most of committees were Swedish, but not for the Peace prize. That committee is chosen the by the Norwegian Parliament. Quote The Nobel Peace Prize (Swedish and Norwegian: Nobels fredspris) is one of the five Nobel Prizes established by the will of Swedish industrialist, inventor, and armaments manufacturer Alfred Nobel, along with the prizes in Chemistry, Physics, Physiology or Medicine, and Literature. Since March 1901,[9] it has been awarded annually (with some exceptions) to people who have "done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."[10] The Oxford Dictionary of Contemporary History describes it as "the most prestigious prize in the world."[11] In accordance with Nobel's will, the recipient is selected by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, a five-member committee appointed by the Parliament of Norway. The prize award ceremony is held in Oslo City Hall since 1990, previously in the assembly hall of the University of Oslo (1947–1989), Norwegian Nobel Institute (1905–1946), and the Parliament (1901–1904). -wiki Edited Friday at 08:44 PM by gehringer_2 Quote
