mtutiger Posted March 21 Posted March 21 (edited) I don't think the headlines about the Department of Education, which were all over the news yesterday and on social media, were good ones. And I think they likely broke through Edited March 21 by mtutiger Quote

And he's ****ing up daily on that front. It's important that Dems learn about what happened in 2024, but after that last eight years, I sometimes worry that we collectively spend way too much time analyzing the last battle versus preparing for the next one. Expand I don't think Dems need to change much. In every swing state that Trump won except Pennsylvania, Dems won the down ballot races. Dems overperformed in the midterms and in special elections. Down ballot Dems overperformed down ballot in red states like Brown and Tester. Trump is a cult. No one has proven to be able to replace Trump. I'm not sure what happens when Trump is gone. My thought is there will be many right wingers fighting with each other for a piece of the biggest grift. Quote

Expand I had thought the same thing on a simplified basis, although as I think more about it, I gotta wonder how much down-ballot success is due to extreme gerrymandering than it is to their general message ex-top of ticket. The Dems did pick up three seats, but those were vacancies. The Republicans did not lose a single contestable House seat out of the 220 they held, and they actually picked up a couple Senate seats. So I'm not sure how much comfort I can take from the down-ballot argument anymore. Quote

Testes and Brown way outperformed the top of the ticket. I think if Brown runs again in 2026 to backfill JD Vance's seat, he can win. I was a little surprised Casey lost Pennsylvania, but Dems won statewide senate races in MI, WI, AZ, and NV and Dems won all the statewide races in North Carolina. They all ran against Trump imitations. No one has been able to duplicate his success. Quote

CMRivdogs Posted March 21 Posted March 21 You needn to throw in Social Security among what will eventually work against him. The mere fact that they have limited access to customer service, which was bad to begin with, forcing seniors and their caretakers to spend hours to get simple questions answered. Closing local offices and forcing folks to drive an hour or more to actually talk to a person will also not help the numbers among seniors. Hopefully we'll see a major backlash in 2026 Quote

Tiger337 Posted March 22 Posted March 22 (edited) Trump has taken over Columbia University. He was going to take away 400 million in funding if they did not agree to letting The Party dictate not only discipline, but also curriculum and admissions. They apparently caved. Scary stuff. https://www.publicnotice.co/p/trump-columbia-univeristy-letter-takeover Not surprisingly, this had nothing to do with anti-semitism.
