as the child of an alcoholic parent i have ZERO tolerance for this jive.  I do not put up with it from coworkers.  There are not two sets of rules: those for the lovable drunk and those for everyone else.  F'em all to Hell.

I totally agree that there should not be separate rules for the "lovable" drunk (not that anyone involved is lovable in this case!)  I have never liked the popular idea that people should be excused for bad behavior while drunk.  They should face the consequences the same as anyone else.
