Anything related to inflation stopped mattering to Trump and his followers on 11/6/2025.

It's really as simple as that.

With Virginia statewide elections coming up in 10 months, I need to keep harping. "it's the Economy stupid". The presumed GOP successor to Trumpkin is a real nut job

What's unprecedented is the direct threats and targeting of a political rivals family with zero evidence to support it.  He was put in that position.

To note, it's not just a rival or their family.  And it's not about putting people in prison, it's about making the life of rivals crappy.  If the full weight of the government starts interviewing Kinzinger, key aids in his office are affected as well as while they didn't do anything wrong, they need to hire attorneys.  The idea behind this is to fiscally punish those they don't like.

What sucks is that organizations where I could get a similar job would also tank.  I would guess you are in a similar situation.  I could probably find some programming job in industry eventually, but I don't really know.

My guess is that funding will come with more conditions... certain types of research will be banned if it doesn't fit the current regime's agenda in some way. We've already seen scopes of research become narrower since about the mid 90s (must study acute forms of disease, etc) but we might see (I hope I'm wrong) certain types of study banned or given strict limits on what they can or can't do.

If I were another country's government, I'd be looking to take advantage of this-by recruiting talented scientists and their studies/discoveries that might otherwise have worked in the US.

Which in the end leads to a very slippery slope and establishes a one party system. Then the US becomes like Hungary at best

Yep. It's using the power of the state to make dissent painful for their critics.

I think you are probably right.  They might threaten to cut all NIH funding, but I imagine  hundreds of thousands of people losing their jobs wouldn't look great for Trump.  Any research of Bird flu or Covid or anything else that will interfere with Trump's presidency will be stopped.  Research not viewed as a threat to Trump might be allowed to proceed.

You just have to put yourself in the mindset of a bigoted person who complains about "woke" and figure out what they think is "woke" and if the research can be deemed "woke" then it won't be given funding.  So if it helps minorities or foreigners...

My guess is that most people don't realize how many jobs are supported by NIH funding-not just researchers but their technicians, admin staff-even doctors and nurses when the organization is a healthcare provider as well as a research institute.

Plus if they aren't tracked, then diseases don't exist.

Would much rather be woke than asleep at the wheel.

I'm getting way too much pleasure trolling my Magat family members.  They knew who he was, what he did, how many people he would hurt and voted for him anyway.   Now the leopard is eating their face and I'm pouring on the gravy. I'd burn in hell if I wasn't an atheist.

It's going to be interesting for us. We're retired, I think we have enough to stay afloat but my wife is still working part time with a consulting business. Most of it is related to some Public TV initiatives. Things like the National Governor's Association's "Argue Better" initiative which promotes bipartisanship (which seems to be a dirty word by the fringe on both sides)

.She's also getting involved with groups preparing for the Sesquicentennial of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. Along with some grant writing.

What scares me is in regard to health care and insurance costs moving forward, especially if they cute Medicare and drop the initiatives to bring drug costs in line. When you have one prescription that runs more than a mortgage payment, I might be sharing the dog's dish.

1. IT WAS NEVER ABOUT "WOKE"Trump just repealed an executive order that established basic non-discrimination requirements for federal contractors that was signed by Lyndon Johnson and has been in place for 60 yearsIt survived Nixon, Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II. And even Trump’s first term. And now it is gone

2. FACTS:Executive Order 11246 does not require quotasIt does not require "reverse discrimination"It requires government contractors to have a plan to reach out to women and other protected groups and collect data about their workforce

3. It has been an extraordinarily effective program. Prior to 11246 there were very few women or minorities working for government contractors. Now, that is not the case. What will the impact of repeal be?We may never know since we'll stop collecting data.

You got it backwards. It's racism yesterday, then antisemitism today. Tomorrow is the rounding up.
